I was diagnosed in Feb. of this year at the age of 32. My symptoms showed up after I had my daughter who is now 8 years old. When I was younger I was one of the lucky ones who was able to get pregnant easily. I have 3 beautiful children. But after I had my youngest (my daughter) my cycles got irregular, I gained weight, and came down with a nasty case of adult acne. I was told back then (I was in my early 20's) that I was just getting old and these things happen. Well the nurse told me that and she and I didn't get along quite well. She had this thing of not letting me speak to the doctor. The doc had no clue that she was doing this. He was a wonderful guy and I spoke to him recently (he moved away) and he apologized for all of that and said he was glad I found an ob/gyn that knew about pcos and was treating me. The diagnosis didn't come any easier for me at 32. I admit it would've been hard to deal with if I had been diagnosed earlier but it was hard now as well. I don't think it is an easy thing to hear at any age.

i guess that is true. its never easy hearing somethings wrong with you. i guess it could just be the time and years that pass that you finally come to terms with it and accept yourself and now i cant even remember wut life was like without it

18, just this year. I thought I was pregnant. I went to the hospital in an ambulance from my doctor's office because I was having serious abdominal pain, had an ultra-sound done, and was diagnosed shortly afterward. Not so happy.... was looking forward to children.

Looking back, I've had symptoms since I hit puberty. Just, never knew anything about it. It's better to know that not know, though, right?

I started having issues at puberty - gained some weight, and the depression I had in childhood worsened. So, I became severely anorexic. I never had a regular AF, and when my father finally took me to a doctor, they said it was because I was so thin. When I was 19, I started gaining a lot of weight, and AF was still absent. So, I went to my first gyno. Because I have a sexual abuse history, nothing was "checked out" - but my labs came back indicative of PCOS. I was given a tentative dx.

Flash forward 6 years: I'd gone without insurance all that time, but I knew I had elevated prolactin levels because of psychiatric care. Finally, I saw a GP who ran all the right tests and set me up with a gyno and endo. I received a confirmation of the dx this past year, though they also suspect Cushing's...

I distinctly remember being told about PCOS at 19. I was on my own in the world, and I remember feeling very overwhelmed...I hope that you are able to pull support from those around you, whatever results you get. It definitely makes things easier to have support!

27 or 28 (I'm 32)

I didn't do much research on it at first, and eh....didn't really hit me until the past year when I started seeing many of the symptoms hit all at once. Since then I've gained a great deal of information and am learning what I need to do to treat it.

I was 21 when I was diagnosed in 'early 1998. The doctor said there was no treatment other than birth control back then - not exactly condusive to building a family! Thank goodness for the internet (and my most favorite book when we went through infertility "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler).

Don't assume that. It may be a journey, but its not impossible.
