I was told I had it at 16, but I had no idea what that meant, and no one ever bothered to tell me, they just told me to try BC. Well my doctor said he would give me BC for my acne when I lost weight. Right. It took my years to make the connections.

Everything I know about PCOS I found out on my own. Do your own research, and approach your DRs. Dont wait for them to approach you, and *always* know what you are putting in your body.

If I sound a little sore about this its because I am. But I have come to terms with it, I know how to control it, and what its doing to me. Knowledge is power.

I was 14 when I was dx. At 15 I started on all of the meds. Once I grew up and out of my parents place and to a new city and state I slowly got off the meds and wanted to hide what was going on with my body and my life. I joined this site just today as I am ready to care (again) about my self.

I was diagnosed at 24. Never had any symptoms until I went off BCP and started TTC and my cycles became extremely irregular. That was this past February.

I went to the doctor thinking I was pregnant and she said, nope, sorry, and you probably wont' ever be able to get pregnant on your own. That's quite a blow when you're 24, married for one year, and just started TTC. I was beside myself. I will remember that day forever.

It's hard knowing that I have this and I might have trouble with fertility. I hope that with time I will do better.

I have an appointment next month with a fertility specialist hopefully he can give me some better news and some more information.

I was 21, 2 months shy of my 22nd birthday. A day that I am glad happened because I know what is wrong with me, but I wish it wasn't true!

I was diagnosed at age 27 after trying to conceive for 5 1/2 years. I started BC 2 months before I was married and stopped it 4 months after. That is when the irregular almost nonexistent periods started and also noticeable weight gain. I think I was gaining a little before then, but not very noticeable. Before that my cycles were fairly regular.

I was diagnosed at 19 . . . my DH and I knew something was wrong with me (heck my mon did when I was 10 and up and nothing went right) so he joined the USAF for the insurance so we could figure it out

It was a great sacrifice for me

Default age of diagnosis

wow tazz....my story is a bit similar to yours

normal cycles from age 13-27....at 27 i skipped for 4 months which is when I was diagnosed

I got married at 26, went on bcp for 5-6 months and didn't tolerate them well. I stopped taking them, gained a bunch of weight and 8 months later started missing periods...

I am somewhat convinced the bcp "triggered" the pcos symptoms since I never had them before...

now I'm 29 (almost) and ttc

I started going to doctors around the age of 18; but wasn't officially diagnosed until around 30. I knew something wasn't right but the gyno just kept telling me i was stressed and put me on birth control pills. Around 30 I was telling my doctor that my DH and I wanted to get Pregnant and she ran some tests and sent me to a specialist, where FINALLY i was told what was wrong with me.
