I was 32 when dx but suspect that I had it since I was in my mid-teens. I was "sort of" dx when I was 24, but no blood tests or anything were done, just a visual dx when it started to make headlines. I remember having various symptoms in my early teens, ie - heavy cycles, missing cycles, dark skin discolorations on elbows and knees. (my family even asked me if I used a loofah/washcloth when I showered because my knees and elbows always looked dirty.)
I think I was about 18. It should have been much earlier, IMO. When I was 14 my mom took me to the dr because I was having some crazy periods - I wouldn't have one for a year, and then it would come and just be a horrible gushing river for weeks on end (seriously, now on my heaviest days I use a super-plus about every 6 hours or so, but during the big crazy periods I'd soak through one in an hour or less!)
The gyno didn't say much except that teenagers often have irregular periods. So we just went with that, until I was about 18 and mentioned that I hadn't had a period in some time. She just told me that I had cysts on my ovaries and gave me a pamphlet - without any kind of other information. The pamphlet made it sound like cysts were totally normal and nothing to worry about. It took prodding and research from my mom before we finally did the whole blood test thing and got the official word.

it kinda goes both ways.. if your young when you were dx then yeah you knew ahead of time and could get it under control but at the same time.. if you got dx when you were older then most of your symptoms may have already been pushed to the extreme.. i personally thought my life was over when they told me that's what i had.. cause see it took them almost a year to tell me that i had pcos.. they gave me a list of things it could be and i looked each of them up on the internet.. but then i looked up this one and this is the one that made the most sense as to what my body was doing and why.. and then when he told me i said yep i knew it.. i actually wasn't surprised at all that i had pcos..

19, though I'd had irregular periods for years, I was 15 when the weigh came on and I got hairy.

I was 37, still am 37 . I had so many symptoms my whole life starting from the age of 11 . I just thought i was some horrible freak . My cousin is the one who told me she thought i had PCOS and i needed to ask a doctor to test me for it . I only found out cause i moved to Austin where my cousin lives and she owns a waxing business and kept bringing up to me every time i saw her. So glad it finally registered in my brain to even check into it. Now im on medication and i feel some relief.
