Yes... you absolutely have to be military to have Tricare. They don't cover anyone but active duty military, retirees, and military dependents. I just lost my Tricare insurance because I "aged" out of my dependent status. There's no opportunity to buy individual coverage from Tricare either. Once you're no longer eligible, you're on your own to get private insurance.

Privitization of health care is an abomination and incredibly immoral. People profit off of creating a beareaucratic nightmare and bottlenecking care.

You can get a policy without pre existing conditions. If your looking for a carrier you can ask them about it.
