Default How severe do your mood swings get?

Hi ladies,

I have been quite lucky, in that my mood swings have been minimal over the last few years while on Diane-35.

This past weekend was a complete exception - I was completely out of control where my mood was concerned! Crying one minute, laughing the next - and then filled with anger and frustration.

I think the worst is over, but my poor dh took the brunt of it all.

How severe have your mood swings been, and is there anything that can be done to help control them?

thanks!

I'm ttc right now but when I was on my first set of bcp (ortho-tryclen), I was very prone to mood swings. I was extremely depressed, to the point of suicidal. My regular gyn. didn't believe it was caused by the bcp so I went to another dr. who definitely understood how bcp can play with a person's emotions. He put me on lo-ovral which had a lesser dosage of hormones. I didn't have any problems after that. I also started taking a b-complex vitamin and that seemed to help as well.

I had a similar reaction to Ortho-Tricyclen that Kim had, except my clinic changed my pill right away once I said my depression was flaring up (and I didn't say how badly it was). I am on Alesse now, and seem to be much happier and less moody on a monophasic pill.

I had also been told to take higher doses of the b vitamins in the past, especially for the breast soreness.

If this only happens to you once in a blue moon, you might just need to learn some coping skills. If it becomes common, talk to your doc. I understand how frustrating it can be to almost witness your emotions spin out of control when otherwise life is fine... yeesh!
