Hi! Today is my first day of taking Cytomel, and I'm a little confused about the dosing schedule. My endo said to take it twice daily on an empty stomach. So, I took the first dose this morning with my Synthroid. If I eat lunch now (it's 11:30 am), does that mean I cannot take the second dose until 4 hours later--around 3:30 pm? Will that have any effect on my sleeping habits?
Also, I was wondering how I can fit my vitamins into this schedule. I usually take my multivitamin with lunch; but, since I will be taking the Cytomel again mid-afternoon, I am guessing that I should wait until dinner to take the multi and other calcium-containing supplements?
Hi BR, I spent a few weeks trying to do cytomel twice a day. Half of it in the morning when I swallow the levoxyl (6am) and half of it around 3pm. I carried a small pill strip in my purse for those 3pm doses. It got to be a hassle though, so now I take all the cytomel at 6am. It's a tiny total dose (5mcg!) and the reason I started it was to get me over the fatigue-times in my day, particularly the morning. So I believe it still helps me in that respect (to jump start me in the AM).

Thanks, Lori! I have been taking 2.5 mcg Cytomel twice a day for a few months now with no problems. Actually, I've felt better on the Synthroid/Cytomel combination than I ever have on Synthroid alone. Ideally, though, I'd still like to be able to take some of my vitamins during the day, instead of taking them all at night. I am considering switching to time-release T3, which would eliminate the twice-a-day dosing. Have you ever tried the time-release T3?
BR, I've always thought about trying it but haven't gone forward. In my case, the Cytomel is such a small fraction of my total thyroid replacement I feel that timed-release isn't justified. I take 112 mcg Levoxyl and 5mcg Cytomel each morning. I understand someone has to go to a compounding pharmacy for that OR switch to a t3-t4 combo like Thyrolar (not sure if this is timed-release actually). On a side note, my dr keeps asking me "is the Cytomel still helping?" and I think it is (but much less dramatic feeling then the first few months on)...but frankly I'm afraid to go off it and risk getting further into the dumps, you know?

I know what you mean, Lori. I'm not giving up the Cytomel, even though it's only a small fraction of my total thyroid replacement, as well--125mcg Synthroid and 5mcg Cytomel. I like the idea of time-release T3, simply because I prefer to take my pills all at once. However, it seems like there would be an even greater chance of interference between time-release T3 and vitamins, if the T3 was being slowly released into your body throughout the day.
