Question How to take your Glucophage XR

I have a question and hope someone has some answers to help me. I have been taking Glucophage XR for close to 2 years now. I started at 500mg for 3 months and then she upped me to 1000mgs which I did until a week ago and now I take 1500mgs a day. My doctor told me it was fine to take it all at once so I have always taken it before I go to be at night (all 2 or now 3 pills). My friend also has PCOS and her doctor told her that I should not take it all at once. But she goes to a regular doctor and I go to a endo. I called my doctor again yesterday and asked her about this and she said as long as I am tolarating (sp) it that it was fine to take it all at once. It has not bothered me so what do you gals think?

Well, I've only been taking 500mg so far, but I'll be increasing my dose soon . . . . maybe tonight. Anyway, the whole point of the XR form is so you *can* take it all at once. It's supposed to get released into your system slowly. That being said, if you don't feel good when you take it all at once, then try splitting it up. I plan to take mine all at once becasue I'll be more likely to remember it that way, but we'll see if I get any side effects. All I've had so far is a little bit of "slow" bowels (the opposite of most people!).

Thats what I was told also but my friends dr. said otherwise so I wanted to ask other users and see what they had to say about it. I have no problems at all taking them all at once. I just started the 1500 mg and don't notice a difference from 1000 mg. I did have a lot of problems getting use to the wonderful side effect when I went from 500 to 1000 but not from 1000 to 1500. So good luck. Thanks for your reply!

Originally my doctor wanted me taking 1000 in the morning and 1000 at night, but I personally always forgot it I had taken it or whatever, I also realized that with spliting the doses up I was getting really tired mid afternoon. So I took it upon myself and switched to taking them all at once. I feel much better have not missed a dose. I also was unable to eat lettuce when I was taking it twice a day now I have no problem with it. So really I think sometimes you have to experiement with it to see how your body will work with it different ways and different times. Good Luck!
