Anyone watching this at the moment ??

i cought the end of the " how toxic are you" and i am back to reducing the amount of chemicles in the home.

there are some great websites www.spiritofnature.co.uk

www.mothernaturesgoodies.co.uk

www.greenpeople.co.uk

all sell natural products some cheaper than others. i know even the chemicles that are tested for saftey when they mix in the environment and in our systems the long term health consequences are not really known. i think there would be alot less allergies etc if we used less chemicles.

so i am hoping that me starting now will pass on to my children and their children.

Also all the chemicles are bad for pcos because they are absorbed by the skin and effect our hormones ( read that in the ultimate pcos handbook) that worries me as there appears to be a link between excess androgens and breast cancer and as my 43 yr old aunt is now getting chemo it seems that if i get the hormones under control i can reduce my risk of cancer too.

That’s what worries me too so now I don’t use deodorant of any kind, I am quite lucky that I don’t perspire a lot.

I was gutted I missed this, I meant to watch

I think I'm pretty concious of chemical type stuff, I go so far as to not even use stuff like Pampers because of the chemicals and always try to get natural stuff mostly! It's a shame it's so pricey...it's not always possible...

What else did the programme cover? Anything main I should be keeping clear of?

I do that so often I'm sure you all think I'm an agent for them - but not!

The deodorants etc seem expensive but smell gorgeous and last for ages - and have NO aluminium in, and don't work by blocking your pores in so sealing toxins in close to your lymph glands, which is thought to implicate modern antiperspirants as carcinogenic.

A lot of stuff marketed aggressively as 'natural' still contains all the sinister surfactants, parabens etc. (The major high st chemist comes to mind but also a shop that is in every major town and city now, selling products as 'handmade' and 'natural'. It's all marketing. Check the labels - you'll see they're full of chemical colourings and surfactants (synthetic foaming agents).

Best thing I ever did was buy this book:

AmazonAmazon
It's full of brilliant recipes of stuff you can make easily at home - from lip gloss to shampoo to hand cream. Bought creams are full of petro-chemical industry by products - the ones you can make at home can have organic vegetable oil bases, and cosmetic beeswax.

The cosmetics/skincare and haircare products you buy in shops are full of preservatives, so they can be stored on shelves in warehouses then shops for months before they reach you.

All those miracle skin creams seem to contain collagen - boiled up cows connective tissue. Mmm. Nice. And the most dangerous thing possibly you can put on your skin is sun cream unless it's natural mineral based, as again you're basically putting aluminium on your skin. People forget that what goes on the skin is in the bloodstream within the hour.

I've found a great supermarket 'Out Of This World' that has lots of European natural skincare products, like these:

The Drhauschka site looks promising, and they have some outlets close by so I am going to look at those in Manchester next week when I am there.
