Question How well does Rogaine really work (esp. over time)?

I am just now coming back to these boards after several years, because I've **finally** been diagnosed! I suspected I had pcos YEARS ago, but the doctors never diagnosed me, and pretty much drug their feet on everything.

Ok, anyway.......My doc yesterday actually said the words....PCOS! My testosterone once again came back a little high, despite being on Spironolactone and bcps(that my derm actually gave me!). The other hormones looked ok. My MAIN symptom (and I only have a couple pcos symptoms anyway) is HAIRLOSS!

So, my ? is......does Rogaine really work (if ONLY to stop hairloss/keep what yuo have)? I've tried it on and off many times, but I realize that I should stay on it for good if I go back on. I'm willing to do this if I think it would help even a little bit.

TIA!

BTW.....I've been losing hair for 6 years (and I'm only 33!)

I've been on rogaine and I personally haven't seen any difference. My DH says it looks better, but I can't really tell. Not sure if I am to continue with that or not.

I have done quite a lot of reading as I am in the same boat. Losing hair fast since 2002.

To be honest with you it does not work for everyone and sometiems not at all.

Apparently the studies just done on men, 20 to 30% get some growth (little hairs) and only on crown.

No studies done really on women or on frontal hair line which seems to be where us women notice first or is the worst.

I have not yet used it as I know I will need to use it for rest of life in order to not lose any new hair that grows and really I've heard the hair is usually never normal or course just fairly vellous..

It seems a lot of workand a lot of rubbing it in twice a day , not to mention the expense to get a few wispy thin hairs to grow.

I may change my mind if it gets a lot worse though... I guess we try anything when it gets too bad hey.
