I'm both hypothyroid and PCOS...my thyroid was diagnosed first because I had a therapist who insisted it be tested before I went on meds for my depression. Once my thyroid was treated, I was OK, but not all the way better. I knew there was something else going on. My periods were irregular, I was growing hair in places that wasn't right for a Irish woman and I had acne worse than when I was in high school. I complained of all these things to my endo and I was told that it was stress! Welp, I complained to my OB at the time...I was told it was stress. Yup! Stress!
Well, to make a long story short, I saw a new endo (whom I can't stand! First impression of him stunk!) and he suggested PCOS. Went to my OB (different one from the first two) and she ran the blood work for IR...
In the midst of all this, I found out that my antibodies were quite high...so that needs to be discussed with my new doc, because HE never mentioned it! My OB did when I had the endo fax the blood work over to my OB. And, all this time, I was wondering what the heck was going on!
Anyway...sorry about the rant/vent...please learn from my passivity...take the world by the balls and take complete charge of your health. The doctors won't always help you as much as you need it!
If you aren't feeling right, something is wrong. No matter what blood tests say and no matter what the doctor says...and keep plugging along until you find someone to treat it all.
Just another piece of advice...autoimmune thyroid disease and PCOS like to go hand-in-hand...make sure you get copies of all bloodwork and research everything!
