Do you have hubby, bf, significant other around when you take your HPT? I'm thinking ahead, and I have surprised myself... I am just thinking to take it alone. Assuming it'll be a BFN, I just don't want to be a mess in front of him. But for a BFP, maybe I'll want a minute to myself... then if he's at work I could plan a fun way to tell him? If it's 4am and he's asleep, I'm afraid I may flip the lights on and bang pots & pans - lol!
I don't know... who tests alone, who tests with their husband, significant other, boyfriend there?

I do a little of both. He usually knows around when I'll be testing, so he's usually waiting.. or asking or..even watching the test with me. Having tested with him so much, I kind of would like to do it alone. It gives me a moment to myself and I get to plan how to tell him, otherwise..there is no surprise reaction..

I've done both also. When i got my BFP, i took a test in the AM and got a faint line. I was SO excited i just yelled downstairs, "BABE, COME HERE!!". He was so scared from our evap last month he didnt believe it and said we should wait and test again in the AM. RIIIIGGGHHT....He had to go to work, and the second he walked out the door i peed on 2 more sticks, ran to walmart and got 2 FRER. All +.
I really wanted to surprise him with a BFP, but couldn't shut my mouth lol. I'm glad he didnt trust it and that gave me the opportunity to surprise him, he just had a heads up ;-)
I personally think it's more fun to do it alone, and have a creative way to surprise him. I think a lot of men (like mine) have a hard time showing emotion unless they're caught off guard!

We'll see how it goes - I would love to test alone and make it a little special event for telling him... but I might just shout it or show up at his work. Ha! Thing is, I need to tell him first.. but it'll be hard not to drive right over to my mom's house first. Now for thinking about fun ideas on how to tell 'em... there are good threads for that, i've seen 'em! if it's not this month, hopefully it'll be in the next few months. Always alone! Not that my DH isnt wonderful, he very much is. But because I know he goes through a letdown whenever they come back negative too. This time I did it, and he was in the next room. Wasn't expecting anything out of it though!

Yeah, there's no way I could wait plus I didn't want to have to show him a negative test and see the look on his face so I always did it alone.

I have done it only with my dh. He gets so worked up like me. But he is a great support when it's a BFN. But I see what you cysters are saying about beiong alone and then telling them a special way when it is a BFP. I try to stay "normal" when it was a bfn for him. But I just wanted to cry. Maybe I will do it alone next time. Good luck cysters!

i've done both as well. usually i take it when he's not there, and then later i have him examine it for faint lines lol 'Do you see it? right there, if you hold it this way, it looks like a line' lol

In the past I have tested with hubby around, per his insistence that he wants to be there for the moment. Kinda neat, because he is there sharing everything with me from the moment we find out. Kind of annoying because, well, it can be a very emotional moment for me. ~49/50 tests have been BFN, so you do the math.
We've had so many BFNs that now we take it on a case by case basis. Most of the time he would rather me do it alone so he doesn't have to face disappointment. I try to casually ask each cycle when we are TTC what his preference is, and then I honor it.
Personally, I prefer him to not being around. If it is a BFN, I want to spare him. Having him around makes it a much bigger deal. If it is a BFP, I'd like to be able to tell him in a cute little way, but it really isn't necessary.
When we did get a BFP, it was early morning and he had just woken up for work. I showed him right away, more out of doubt than excitement. I was like "uh.... honey? Does this look like two lines to you?" It wasn't the way I had imagined it happening at all, but I guess it was perfect in its own little way.

Sometimes I tested with him and other times, alone. The time we got our BFP, I actually didn't do a HPT. I live on a small Navy base in Japan and the entire base was sold out for weeks so I had to get tested at the medical clinic. When the doctor called with the good news, I was home alone so I got to be the one to tell my husband that he'd finally be a dad. I'm really happy that the base didn't have HPTs then because I got a little special moment to tell him myself To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. I always take mine by myself. DH never knows when I am testing.... With the exception of course of the test I took when I found out I was pg with DD. He insisted I test because I had not been feeling well for a while. With that one I took it and came out of the bathroom 20 seconds after dipping the test and all I could say was HOLY SH!T!!!! He got the most absolutely priceless look on his face. I really wish I would have had a camera for it.
With this one I had to call him into the bathroom to see if he saw the line cause it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO faint. It was like 3am and my aunt was living with us at the time and I wanted to run and wake her up too to get her opinion on it too lol... lucky for me she happened to wake up a little bit after that and took a look. It was hilarious.

i always test alone! I want that moment to myself...lol. When it does happen i want to soak it in and have a joyful moment to myself. DH doesn't pay attention to when i test yet so its not a problem. I want to be able to suprise him.

Cute ways of telling DH/bf/significant other is really a good idea, but when it came down to it I didn't do anything. I just carried the test into the bedroom and told him. Personally I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm a "Bathroom Business Behind Closed Doors" kind of girl... even when it comes to peeing on a stick.
But I'll find out from my RE whether or not I'm pregnant because they do a blood test 2 weeks after the IUI and she asks you not to test before then. (Just between you and me though? I'll probably POAS that morning before I go...) So I get to find out at work, in my office, over the phone...
At least I work with my DH so I could rush back to HIS office and tell him!! (But I also work for my father so I guess he'd no pretty quick too...)
Damn RE's. They take all the fun right out of it!!
