My HSG was completely painless! I was SHOCKED... i was crying just thinking about it, while sitting in the waiting room... I just kept breathing through it and the doctor actually held my hands. I took 800 mg of Motrin about 45 minutes before so maybe that helped and I had no cramping afterwards.... I got very lucky! The results came back normal. Now if i can just get pregnant!

Mindy-Many women get pregnant soon after having an HSG. I'm one of them. After 5 unsuccessful IUIs with my first RE, my 2nd RE refused to do treatment w/o doing an HSG. I found out my left tube was blocked but it didn't matter since I Oed on the right side that cycle and the IUI resulted in my daughter who will be 2 in Juy! GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi Mindy, sorry to hear your HSG was unpleasent, I had one 6 years ago last month and like Cindy said many women do find out they are PG not long after having it done. My results were normal and I found out in May 2003 that I was almost 8 weeks PG with my DD who is now 5 years old. My RE at that time told me that alot of women who experience complications with getting PG including amenorhea benefit from the HSG because it "flushes" out the reproductive system in women and gives you a clean slate.
Here's hoping your procedure was/is as successful as mine was!

Glad to hear yours wasn't too bad! Mine was pretty bad cramping for a few hours. Good luck moving forward! Wishing you all the best!

Thanks to everyone for your great words of encouragement! I'm having alot of problems getting my cycle to come even with prometrium this month. I'm disappointed and now they are talking about "other options" since my lining is very thick. I'm still thinking warm pregnant positive thoughts :-) THanks so much!

Hi, I am new to the site as well. My sister had an HSG and she was quite uncomfortable. However, just stay focused on why you're having it done. Wish you luck!
I had one, and it was extreeeeemely uncomfortable. I had bilateral blocked tubes and the doctor was hoping to clear them (if it was just mucus) by pushing some extra dye through. Well, the dye has nowhere to go and the uterus is cramping and trying to expel it. That being said, I would do it again. The pain is intense, BUT as soon as the tube is removed and the excess dye leaks out, almost all the pain is gone. I would say I was in pain for about 20-25 minutes total. You won't know it you are blocked until you do. Do you really want to waste money on treatments if you are blocked?
