Default hyper/hypo Confused?

Hi,

I have had an ultrasound done which dr. told me I had 2 nodules in my thyroid that were very small. He was a nose, throat specialist. I was not happy with him. I went to my GP and she told me to get a uptake scan the scan showed no nodules and an swollen thyroid. My blood work is as follows: TSH 0.247 range is 0.350-5.500 my t4 is 9.4 range is 4.5 - 12.00 My t3 is 160 range is 85 - 205. Dr. says I'm boarder line HYPER but I have all the symptoms of HYPO - weight gain, Brittle hair, tired, consitation etc. I am so confused! Any advise!

Your symtoms that you are describing as hypo could be from PCOS. With your TSH at 0.247, it is unlikely that you are experiencing these symptoms from hypothyroidism.

It is very possible that you have 2 small nodules on your thyroid, many people have nodules and less than 10% of those nodules are cancerous. Usually they are nothing to worry about. But sometimes they can be hot or cold, meaning they produce way too much thyroid hormone or none at all. From what you said, your nodules did not appear on the scan?

When you had your uptake scan, did a radiologist look at your scan and/or the ENT or just your GP? The reason I ask is because even though GPs are awesome at their jobs they sometimes do not pick up on small things that radiologists would.

THanks for your reply mommavia!

My GP gave me the results of my uptake scan. I am however going to see an Endo but my appt. is not until may 26th. Ultra sound shows nodules uptake scan show a englarged thyroid. I guess I must wait until next month to get more answers.
