Has anyone been dx with a hyperthyroid? I was just dx at the end of January and dr also found a multinodular goiter. Had an ultrasound and then a biopsy. Everything with the biopsy came back fine. One thing I am trying to find is how I can have a hyper thyroid and have all the symptoms but instead of weightloss I am having unexplained weight gain. My appt with the endo isnt until the end of this month and its making me crazy not knowing whats going on. Anyone have any suggestions or experiencing the same? |

My Mood: Points: 654.71 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 654.71 | I had hyperthyroidism. It took me about a yr to get diag. that was about 4 years ago. it lasted about 1.5 years. I chose not to have the radiation treatment. I did not want to kill my thyroid. I was also on beta blockers to help with the chest pains and the constant being hot and sweating ALL the time. I didn't loose weight either. I didn't gain either. I could diet or eat all junk food with no results of one way or another. I was very frustrated with the fact I couldn't loose weight like all the info I read siad I should. My dr said that my body was confused and it would take time for it to wark out.
The reason I didn't want radiation is it will kill your thyroid and then you will be hypo for the rest of your life.
I realy hope this helps. |

Whats even worse is I work in food production and come warm weather I know its going to be miserable. Have your drs ever tested your pituatary gland vs your hyperthyroid? The specialist I seen for the goiter suggests my endo check that out before anything. I cant wait till the 28th when I finally see him. |

My dr. also put me on a beta blocker that helped with being hot. I think it started with a "T" Ask your doctor and see. My dr. said it was a side effect of the drug which worked for me--making people cold |

I have experienced _exactly_ the same problem. I am quite miffed that I don't have the best symptom of hyperthyroidism. Weightloss!!!
Same days I'm generous and think that, when it comes to hormones, the symptoms list is really just a starting point. I don't think the medical world has enough data on how hormones affect people differently. Other days I'm completely frustrated on having to take another pill that helps my blood test numbers but not my symptoms.
I'm on thyroid suppressors now, but am considering the radiation. I asked my doc if it was worth it to do the radiation if it just meant I would exchange one pill for another. According to him the synthroid is better to be on long term because it doesn't have the possible side effect of decreased white blood cells. |

I have had all the tests now they have found another place on my thyroid they want to have biopsied because they are not sure if it was done the first time. I know I need to do it because they are saying its a cold spot and are concerned about it. Dr finally put me on meds to suppress it but would like me to consider the radiation if the biopsy comes back ok. OHHHH and I asked why of all the symptoms I am having why I am gaining instead of losing and he simply said its because I am diabetic. Of all the good things that could come of this and I get ripped of it lol. Are you diabetic also? |

I'm doing a pretty go job of pretending that nothing is wrong and, thus, am still eating like a teenage boy. I'm afraid it will take a big wake up call to make me recognize I must make a change.
It sucks that you have to have to go through the biopsy process again. I hated having to go through that. It wasn't painful but it completly stressed me out. Good luck! |

Points: 1,099.45 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,099.45 | After a few disagreements with my endo I decided to ask my family dr to send me to a new endo. I have never been happier about my decision, this dr is wonderful! He spent 2 hours with just me and didnt act like I was from another planet. He made me feel so much better about whats going on and we talked about it and I am having the rai treatment maybe as soon as this coming friday. And the best news of all is I may be able to get away from taking my met and amaryl eventually! So if I can trade in the heat, the racing heart, the irritability, the thinning hair and all the rest of the crazy things thats been going on with my body and just take one or 2 pills a day for the rest of my life hey I am all for it. |

I go this friday for the radioactive iodine to kill the thyroid and then I will be taking a thyroid replacement also. I am not ttc anymore so I it shouldnt effect me. Have you lost weight or gained with your hyperthyroid? |

If you thryoid is out of whack, having it removed or ablated and taking Synthroid may actually make it more likely that you will conceive. Many women conceive after getting their thyroid back in check.
