Question Hyperthyroid

Has anyone here been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. I had been hyperthyroid for many years. My thyroid is normal now. TSH is a .6 something. I think it will eventually burn out. Then I will have to be on synthroid.

Hi Yasmin,

I was wondering what kind of treatment you did for your thyroid? Mine is overactive so I am trying to research treatment options for hyperthyroidism. Thanks so much!

My mother's family has many thyroid issues from Hypo to Hyper but I know that if you are diagnosed with Hyper thyroid they can treat it with Radioactive Iodine treatments. My aunt had to have it done. Basically they kill off part of your thyroid to try and get it back to normal. Usually with Hyper after treatment the thyroid gets sluggish and they will put you on medication once a day to regulate.

Mimipink2,

I had to have hyperthyroid iodine treatment over ten years ago when I was 24 or 25. But it did not work! I was still hyperthyroid afterwards and still was until a few months ago. After I first had it done, the doctor told me he was not going to have me do another iodine treatment because he said that it would not be good if I ever wanted to have children. He said it would eventually burn itself out. I was hyperthyroid for a long time even through my pregnancy. If you are considering getting pregnant, I would think about whether or not to get the iodine treatment since you will have to wait a year after its done because of the radiation exposed to your ovaries. That's what they told me. Through the years, my thyroid has been hyper but at one point it was hypothyroid with a TSH of 6.0 or so. My endocrinologist said it was because I was recently recovered from a respiratory virus that affected my thyroid. He said it would get back to normal in a few months without any help. But, my obgyn put me on synthroid when I was wanting to ttc at that time. Now, at the present time it is in the normal range without any synthroid and I'm not sure how that happenned. I do take DHA supplements and lots of B vitamins. I think Omega 3's in general help with imflammation in the body and support the immune system. I also exercise.

I am having my tsh tested tomorrow with blood work to see if I have hyporthyroudism. Lab work I had done a number of yrs ago showed TSH level of .26. I dont know what to make of a low number like that.
I guess I will find out soon where I am at now. I have been so incredibly fatigued it is interfering w my life. *sigh*
