Default hyperthyroid.............

Well ladies, I just got my bw results back from my gastroenterologist and it came back as hyperthyroid. Since the dr noticed I just had a baby six months ago we're gonna repeat the tests in six weeks. I've never had thyroid problems but hypo is in the family. Is there a chance that my thyroid won't go back to normal?

Thanks in advance!

ps...... kerameli...... still trying to work things out for that weekend!!

Hi

During pregnancy it's normal for your thyroid hormones to increase to a higher level than normal. In some women these hormones take longer to decline back to normal post-pregnancy. So it may be that your not really hyperthyroid, your just experiencing a sort of aftermath of pregnancy. However, even if you are diagnosed as hyperthyroid after your next test, don't worry, because it's totally treatable. Good luck!

Hyper or hypo? (your title was hyper, but you mentioned hypo about your family)

Just from my own post partem thyroid adventures , I'd suggest that you ask them to run an antithyroid antibody test as well.

www.thyroid.about.com has some great information, including a pregnancy/fertility page http://www.thyroid.about.com/cs/pregnantfertility/ and this article, that might help.
