I am 27, TTC 3 years, 1 miscarriage after 2 Clomid cycles in 2001. I was jus diagnosed with PCOS, and I have an appt. the day before Thanksgiving to go over all of my labs and next steps. I want to be prepared mentally, is my endo going to tell me that IUIs ad IVFs are my only chance for conception?
Has anyone on this board gotten pg by just taking Synthroid and Glucophage and had both PCOS and Hypo?
What are the statistics for a woman with both?
Thanks guys, I am dreading next week so bad. I don't even want to have sex anymore, I am so down about the weight gain and to have 100 times more hair than my husband on my body doesn't help the esteem much either!

Hypothyroid - .125mg of Synthroid daily.
Recently diagnosed with PCOS, just starting Metaformin. Excessive hair, weight (5'7'', 207lbs.), fatigue.
Type II Diabetes.
Miscarried - June 2001
Hi. I managed to get pregnant in March, and I take 88 mcg of Synthroid, and 2000 mg of Glucophage. Unfortunately, I miscarried due to low progesterone, but yes, it has been done. Now we're just waiting to find out if I'm pregnant this cycle.
Good luck!

Hi
Just wanted you to know that I am hypothyroid and have PCOS i take 1.25mg of levoxyl and just went back on glucophage XR 500mg I was on 2000mg up until two weeks before my baby was born, My baby is now two months old, I conceived with glucophage XR, Levoxyl, and doing Carbohydrate Addicts Diet I lost 45lbs. My TSH was 4.69 when I conceived, I know they say it should be at 1 or 2 but I think you can still conceive at a higher rate. I also had the facial hair, bad acne, was over weight and didn't ovulate or have regular periods but once i lost a little weight and got my insulin resistance and thyroid in order even though my t hyroid was still a little high I did conceive.
What are the statistics for a woman with both? I don't know on this, you should talk to your dr about this and you could also go check out http://thyroid.about.com/library/news/blguidelines.htm
this is where I learned alot about TSH and being hypothroid in general, I hope it helps you
I do know how you feel about not wanting to have sex, and not feeling very sexy and having low esteem, I do hope some of this info helps you and if you want to talk feel free to email me safar@ucom.net any time !! Good Luck

I've been on Synthroid for almost 2 years now and I just started Metformin last Sunday. I was also ttc since 09/2000 but after 2 ivf cycles and 2 m/c's (both around the same time - 7th/8th week) we've decided to take a break. My OB is hopeful that the Met will actually bring me back a normal cycle since one of my problems is that I wasn't ovulating on my own.
I don't know what the stats are but I wanted to tell you that you are not alone. Good luck to you.

Once your hypothyroid is stabilized, it doesn't much affect your fertility. So if your TSH is stable between 1 and 2 and your T3 and T4 look normal as well (with no other complications like cysts, nodules, etc.), you can scratch thyroid off your list of TTC problems.
And yes, there are lots of PCOSers with and without hypothyroid who have conceived with Gluc alone! If that's not enough for you, Clomid may be a good option.
Good luck!

Conceived twice by IVF/ICSI/AH, one fresh, one frozen

Free of soy, sugar, high-fructose corn syrup and and trans fats since March 2002...now regular periods, free of cysts, testosterone normalized, more than 70 lbs lost, ovulation and fertility restored, cholesterol total only 145... ...and now child #2 born 6/7/04 8 lbs 5 oz.Holy cow--a GIRL this time!!!
....I got pregnant on synthroid, alone, although I dropped my weight down about 20 pounds. Second child, I conceived on synthroid and my first cycle of injectibles ....my weight had gone back up but I was getting a little old to pass my time trying to lose it, and gluc was not really a known option back in the olden days (1994).
I agree with a previous poster. Once your thyroid function has been normalised, it shouldn't be a big deal.
GOod luck!

I visited this website for the first time and your topic grabbed my attention. I know that my reply might not be the best, but I found it appropriate to give you my 2 cents on this subject.
I have had hypothyroidism since hmm... 1989. It doesn't seem long, but via my age, it's been apart of almost my whole life. Also, I was diagnosed with PCOS and Herpes Simplex in the beginning of 2002. I was devestated to say the least. However, don't lose hope. It took us 11 months of trying and trying and I was against any fertility drugs, even though my doctor said that I wouldn't be able to conceive without them. Lo' and behold' we proved him wrong!!! July 6, 2002 - I had my first positive!
I am now almost 31 weeks pregnant. It IS possible!
Good luck, and don't lose hope.

I am 30 weeks!
You bet you have a chance! I have had PCOS and Hypothyroid although just resent diagnosed on the hypo but doc says had for years...
I have three kids! My cysts actually caused me a tipped uterous and that was my main problem! It was funny that I could only get pregnant by using the baby calculator at babycenter.com and trying "alternate" positions (i.e. all fours butt up in the air) not the most romantic but worth the end result! LOL I wasn't on any meds and doc says it's amazing that I did get pregnant. Last two baby's conceived the day I was trying!!!

Love,

i am 15 week pg and am taking thyroxine as I have hashimoto's thyroiditis - also pcos - but got pregnant using low gi diet, weight loss, detox, vitamin supplements and acupuncture.
I'd love to share my story - please post back if you are interested in what I did!

Us too.
I had PCOS when I got pregnant with Ana (first try - honeymoon baby), and became hypothyroid after I had her. It took us 5 cycles.
I didn't get pregnant until my thyroid was under control. Even then, my cycles were pretty screwy, and we got pregnant by charting my fertility. www.tcoyf.com I highly recommend charting. If you have any troubles conceiving, (and you have charted) then you have a wealth of information to present to your RE.
Shel's very lucky that the baby calcs did it for her, she must be one of the rare women who have what they call an "average" cycle. I think only a tiny percent of women have the 28 day (day 14 ovulation) cycle.

PCOS - not taking anything, while pregnant
Yes - it is possible! I have a 9 year old son and 6 month old. I started actos and levothryoid and less than 2 years later I was pregnant. We were not trying, charting or anything else.
