Question hypoglecimia

Hi all.. My dr. prescribed glucophage XR and I am very nervous and hope some of the experts on this board can help out.

I get nervous because I am not a scheduled eater. I most usually skip breakfast and don't eat a first meal till about 1 or 2. The reason I get nervous is because I am afraid of hypoglecmia. I have this fear that even if I do eat breakfast that I am gonna get it since I am not a diabetic and it will lower my suguar levels... Am I being silly for thinking like this and putting off taking it for so long.

I am also afraid of GI effects and I am torn between wanting to take it because It will make me feel better (since I am always so tired and lifeless) and not taking it cause of the fears I have.

If anyone can give me some advice I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you all so very much in advance

Clara

Yeah, you're going to have to start eating more regularly. It's better for you anyway. Did you know that people who eat breakfast are an average of 8 pounds smaller than people who don't? It really gets your metabolism going plus I bet you'll find that you can think more clearly in the AM if you eat something.

Don't worry about hypoglecmia and Gluc. Gluc can't cause hypoglecima because all it does is help your body use the insulin it already produces. It' has nothing to do with the amout of insulin you have. Some people complain that they get lightheaded but I think it's just due to the fact that once you start Gluc you basically have to learn how to eat all over again. I was shocked to find out that it wasn't normal to be hungry 8 or 10 times a day! If you experience lightheadedness, just eat something (preferably something with a little protien).

When I started the XR the only precaution I took against side effects was taking the med in the middle of a meal. I have had NO side effects buy following this simple rule. Sometimes people find that the pills come out in the toilet looking un-metabolized (like white grapes). While the Gluc website says this is normal and that your body IS using what it needs of the med, I've found that by simply switching up the meal I take it with I can avoid this too. In fact I just did this the other day, I switched from breakfast to dinner and haven't seen them since.

Good luck and keep us posted!
