When I was 13 I had my period for a good year without stopping, so I was put on birth control(Mircette). For a while things were normal so they took me off the birth control, and then a few years ago I went about 6 months nonstop with my period again and was put back on the Mircette. At this point I was sent to an endocrinologist who did the tests and diagnosed me with PCOS. I had severe acne and horrible cramping but did not really show many of the other symptoms. Unfortunately I have now begun to show more symptoms. My cramps got worse and I ended up passing out because my sugar and iron levels are screwy. I am not on Yasmin instead of the Mircette and on Fortamet for the blood sugar as well as taking Womens One A Day for the iron. This is where I am confused though. Over the summer I passed out at work and my GP sent me for a 5 hour GTT. My glucose level dropped down to around 40. My GP called us and told us I was hypoglycemic. So I went off to college thinking I was hypoglycemic. I came home for Christmas break and went to see me endocrinologist to get a thing to test my sugar levels because the college wanted me to have one, and she tells me that I am not hypoglycemic. She didn't do any tests or anything, just said it wasn't hypoglycemia. She says it is just insulin resistance from the PCOS and put me on Fortamet, which is similar to the glucafage, but tends to have a lower occurence of side effects. My GP still thinks it is hypoglycemia and the college health center still wants me to have a way to check my blood sugar levels, but the endocrinologist will not give me a prescription for one. How do I know who is right about the hypoglycemia or insulin resistance? Should I find a new GP or should I find a new endocrinologist? I don't know what is going on with me now or how to eat because it is different for those two things...I'm so confused and I haven't got a clue which doctor to listen to. Any help would be much appreciated.
1. Get your original GP to write the prescription you need for the device.
2. Have your endo write a letter to the college stating you DON'T need the device.
3. Get a third opinion. (I vote this one.)
Good luck!

I have no advice for you but I am having kind of similar problems, I'll get real shaky if I haven't eaten at all and my glucose levels are FINE! My insulin levels are not as bad as they were 6 months ago, but they are not good either. I wonder if it could be hypoglycemia?
Good luck to you and I completely agree with the poster above...you should get another opinion.

With hypoglycemia your glucose levels would be low. Your insulin would probably be high too, but the glucose is (I think) the main thing with hypoglycemia so I'm not sure it could be that if your glucose is fine.
In any case - IR, Hypoglycemia (or even just an average healthy human being), sticking to the IR diet or something similar can make a world of difference in terms of sugar levels and energy levels.
I had a GTT and it indicated that I am mildly hypoglycemic. Since then I have been eating every two or three hours, keeping away from sweets and drinking a lot of water. It has made a difference, I don't get the shakes, am never hungry and have lost a couple of inches.
Anyway, until the medical people get their act together, you might wanna try this and see if it amkes you feel better.

Got symptoms under control with no meds.
The biggest problem I have with that is that I am at college and dining hall food doesn't exactly tend to be low carb...I mean, I do try, but it's so hard. I've actually gained weight here and I really don't know how since the worst thing I ever really ate was the egg salad spinach wraps, which are not really bad for you...
