Does anybody else get an incredibly rapid change in mood (i.e., going from pleasant to negative) when your blood sugar gets too low???
I get this sometimes (I'm still working on finding easily made snacks I can have available that I don't in one sitting decide to make into a meal) and am simply amazed (or is that scared?) by how quickly I can turn from happy-go-lucky Sophist to PMS-like Sophist from hell.
I know this is one of my hypoglycemic symptoms. Just wondering if anyone else notices such a rapid change in their presentation when their bs gets too low and whether they find it similarly both fascinating and SCARY.
I often find myself apologizing to family members for it...
My lovey knows when I'm really hungry because I go from normal happy me to *****y me to mopey me. It can change really quickly.
I was a mega-***** yesterday - never got lunch at work! Too busy! So by 6pm, my head was spinning around and I was puking pea soup lol They though I was possessed because I was so unlike myself.
I carry a granola bar with me and will eat that if I'm hypoglycemic, but usually only when I can get something to eat within the next 30 minutes (or I have reactive hypoglycemia sometimes).

It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop. ~ Confucius
Same here. And it does come on fast. I have to at least have a small bite of food at the first sign of hunger. DH jokes (when I'm NOT hypoglycemic ) that if I'm in a bad mood, the first thing he does is toss some food my way and leave the room for 20 minutes.
Unfortunately, I see the same trait in DD. She's normally a laid back child, but if she's in a bad mood, 9 times out of 10 a snack will fix it.

Big time! DH can hear it coming in my voice. He does the same thing:

Snackwise, here are some good ideas. My mom got me these 2oz tupperware thingies and I fill them with nuts: almonds, walnuts, pecans, cashews, whatever I feel like that day. 2oz is surprisingly filling. Or, I fill it with trail mix.
So, depending on my day and when I'm having lunch, in the morning, I might toss into my bag 3 or 4 of the following snacks - all pre-measured/weighed:
- handful baby carrots
- serving dried fruit: apricots, apples, prunes, whatever you like
- 2oz nuts
- 2oz trail mix
- 2oz banana chips
- small piece of fruit (apple, peach, nectarine, plum, etc.)
- small serving fruit - 5 or 6 strawberries or cherries
- 2 finger-size bananas
If it's all pre-measured/weighed, then I know it's exactly what I'm supposed to eat and I'm not pigging out on it. And, I've found that if I snack slowly and really taste the food, that helps keep me from going back for more.

Another problem is that my hunger doesn't always coincide with my sugar levels. All my life, I've found I always prefered to eat one or two larger meals and maybe a snack and that's it. And also I never get hungry for quite some time when I wake up, but I'm definitely needing some sugar fuel.
I wish my hunger was better attuned to my bs, because so often this gets me into the moody-bind. And when I'm not hungry, I just can't force myself to eat. At those times, even just thinking about it makes me nauseous. So at those times I tend to take a little snip of apple cranberry juice to give my stomach more time to wake up.
But of course the juice doesn't last long and sends my bs crashing even lower if I don't finally eat in enough time to catch it.
