I had a snow day and decided to do some online research about ways to improve hypothyroid symptoms. There is a buzz on the Internet about aspartame sweetener affecting people in a bad way, thyroid-wise.
It caught my attention but you know how it is about these things: "alternative" health person takes a bit of information, forms a theory, writes a book and/or markets supplements, and makes a ton of money.
Still, some of it resonated with me because I do drink one diet cola a day, as well as gum sometimes, and I HAVE thought about quitting the soda before (because of my admitted reliance on the caffeine). I always thought if I could give up my daily soda, I would somehow feel better.
So now I am wondering: Have any hypothyroid cysters given up aspartame/diet cola, and if so, has it made any difference in your physical health or mental health? Please be as specific as you can. Thank you!

I am sorry but I am of no help here. I haven't had a glass/can of carbonated beverage for over 9 years. The stuff made/makes me sick to my stomach. SO maybe this is why.
Thanks anyway, Loongirl. I'm experimenting with cutting out the aspartame so maybe I can find my answer!

I am not giving up my Diet Coke.
It is one of the very few things that bring me joy in my life.
Have you thought about switching to the splenda based Diet Coke?

That's what I'm using now, got a box of pepsi one with splenda. It's not horrible.

I gave up Diet Coke about a year and a half ago, but it was because caffeine was making my blood sugar crash. I did feel better after that. I just have to warn you about some of those diet softdrinks that contain splenda though. They have the splenda logo on them and contain splenda, but if you look at the ingredients they also sometimes contain aspartame.
