Well I am new to this board, new to PCOS, but not new to all the problems associated with it. My doc just put me on Synthroid yesterday. Along with the hair loss, acne, "chin hairs", and the fact I have to take drugs to get pregnant, could it really get any worse? The thyroid thing is just one more thing that irritates me. My question is though, will I now be able to lose weight faster when my thryoid gets straightened out? I've lost 35 lbs but it's taken me 6 months to lose it. I'm on WW and most of the other people are losing weight like crazy. Is that part of the thyroid thing? I am pretty in the dark about these kinds of things, but am learning lots from this board. I appreciate any help that's out there!
You definitely would have more trouble losing weight with thyroid disease. Hopefully you get on a good dose of medication and get it all straightened out. You'll feel lots better when you are properly medicated!

Bummer to hear you have Hypo-thyroidism on top of everything else. Just wanted to offer you my experience with hypo-thyroidism. I was diagnosed 9 years ago, and have been on Thyroxine (which I'm guessing is the same as Synthyroid) since i was 15. Once you're on the correct dose, it won't instantly make you loose weight, but yes, I think it should help! When my thyroid is under control it's easier to loose weight - tho it still takes smart eating and exercise. I'm useless at remembering to take my meds tho, so it's gets a bit crazy. 2004 will be the year I succeed!
Best of luck with getting your thyroid probs sorted and with the WW! You go girl!
:o)

I was diagnosed about a month ago with hypo and PCOS too, all very frustrating.
They started me on the same dosage of Synthroid that you are on now and it wasn't nearly enough. They bumped it up to 1 and I still didn't feel better. Finally at 1.25 I can tell a huge difference in how I feel and even so I'm not sure it is strong enough yet.
Be sure to let them know if you don't feel any different so that they can increase your dosage if necessary.
My Dad has had hypothyroidism for years and the medication never made him drop weight on its own. I think the same will be true for me. You will just have to think of it as an extra bit of help when working on exercising and how you eat since not everyone has those lucky excess weight losses from it.
