Default Hypothyroid Diagnosis

I think I have a hypothyroid. I also have PCOS and I'm constantly tired and sometimes nauseous.

What tests do I request from my doctor to be diagnosed? This doc only did a level I test last time.

Musicmaker, you need a full set of hormonal tests to be done by giving a blood sample. Your doctor has to order that for you.

Hope all goes well.

TSH (should be less than 3)
Free T4 (should be at least midway in the lab range)
Free T3 (should be midway to upper quadrant of the lab range)
TPO antibodies test (to check for autoimmune hypothyroidism, aka Hashimoto's Thyroiditis)
Ferritin (iron stores), because sometimes low ferritin can mimic hypothyroidism symptoms

Are you on any medications that may be contributing to your symptoms? Metformin (Glucophage) can cause tiredness and nausea, for example. So can blood pressure meds.

IT doesn't hurt to have your doctor test your adrenal functions as well. I was suggested to have them run by a Naturopathic doctor. Sure enough my adrenals were borderline low. The doctor is watching them now and may start treating them. They are hormone tests so they usually take a week or more to get the results back on them. DHEA/ Pregnenalone (sp??) and some others. I don't have all my test reults in front of me to tell you all of them.
