I was recently diagnosed with slight hypothyroidism and just took my first dose of Armour today.
I've been battling hairloss for quite some time now and have significant thinning even though I've been on flutamide for about 9 months now.
My androgens come back pretty normal although I know I'm sensitive to them (have facial hair too).
Has anyone seen an improvement in hair loss / regrowth after getting their thryroid back in balance? I've heard that it can raise the shbg (not sure if I got that right), so I'm hoping that maybe that will help bind the some of the testosterone wreaking havoc on my body.
I was also given a script for Fortamet by a different doctor, but don't want to throw to many meds at this at one time. I also know that metformin can cause hairloss in some so while I know it might help, I'm kind of afraid of it too.
I've heard of hairloss with either low thyroid or high androgens, so I won't guess what is happening to you. However, I have heard a LOT of people over the years who had significant hair shedding before they got their thyroid replacement under control. Definitely tell the dr. your concerns, and be on the lookout for improvement now that you are on Armour!

I really think my hair loss is from androgen sensitivity. (increased facial hair. my head hair grows quite fast, but doesn't want to stay in my head apparently!)
It's hard to say what exactly is going on though.
My current theory is that my androgens rose in the last few months and the flutamide had to keep up but couldn't.
However the hypothyroid diagnosis was a complete surprise!
I've been doing some reading and it seems plausible that the thyroid condition may be playing a role with my androgens. So it made sense to me to start with that and see if it's playing a role.
I'm going to give it a little time and then consider adding the Fortamet. Just leary because I keep reading about some people experiencing more hair loss on that. Wish I knew why so I'd have a better idea of my risks.
Kimm hope you are feeling closer to 100% in no time!

Vinaria, no unfortunately. By excess hair, I am thinking you mean like facial/body hair that grows in too much or thick or dark, as compared with typical women. That is often caused by too many androgens (like testosterone) being in your bloodstream and activating more hair follicles to grow hair.
But thyroid replacement medicine brings your thyroid levels to where they should be, and that's a great start towards feeling better because thyroid affects your whole body and brain.

I know that but my androgens are normal.Even the free testosterone is under the low range.I can't understand what is happening with my body .It's weird.
Vinaria, that's really strange! If I learn anything else about what you're talking about, I'll post again. Because the excess hair is bothering you, you should press your doctor into learning about its cause and how to improve it.
