Red face Hypothyroidism and sex!! I'm confused.

Hello, I was wondering if anybody has experienced this as well. I have suspected my entire life to have problems with my thyroid, I am 28 and ever since I lost my virginity at age 18, I have been intimate with guys, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at age 27, and as soon as I started taking synthroid I experienced sexual pleasure, you see, before I used to have sex because that was what my past boyfriends wanted, as I was having sex I never felt any pleasure down there, nothing at all just pain once in a while, it was as if the guy that I was having sex with was not touching anything... I didn't get any pleasure from anything, I never told anybody not even a doctor. Synthroid has giving me a vagina finally lol, I've been feeling something down there as if my sexual parts are alive now, I finally had an orgasm. So, I was wondering if anybody knows if our thyroid gland controls the hormones that are related to our sex glands or something. I've been doing research and I haven't found a ot of info. I also noticed that as I started my metformin and synthroid my vagina is not as moist as it used to be, now it is more dry; and I have noticed that in order to have pleasure it has to be somehow moisty, sorry if I sound retarted, but I feel like a teen that just discovered sex. Is pcos and sex also related? Help please! I asked my Endo Doctor and ha completely avoided me, the only thing he said to me was; Well I'm happy to hear that your sex life has improved!! wtf? Aren't doctors supposed to help us out? Any info will be greatly appreciated... THANX.

I have heard other people complain about being 'dry'...I don't generally have that problem, but lubricant works wonders if it's ever an issue. I don't think hypo or pcos has ever affected my ability to be um...pleasured ;-) As a woman your sex drive is higher now than in your late teens/early 20s, and I guess if your hormones are more balanced and you're feeling better it could be related. I'm pretty sure all the glands are hormones and really the entire endocrine system is all related so you could have had another problem that has eased up due to treating your thyroid. I just read some info to lead me to believe I have problems with my adrenal glands too but by treating my thyroid issues it should also balance out my adrenal issues...you may have been experiencing something similar with your sex glands? Regardless, enjoy the side effects!

I don't know how long I was actually hypo before I was diagnosed, but I definitely noticed a difference in my sex drive once I started treatment. Within 2-3 weeks after starting Synthroid I noticed a big change, even though it took several more months after that before my TSH actually got into the normal range. During my teens an early 20's I hardly had a sex drive, but it started to improve in my late 20's. I started Synthroid at 30 and the change was drastic.

I'm also on Met but not currently having any dryness issues. I remember some dryness at first but it seems to have resolved itself. If anything I'm the opposite now.

First of all thanx for the reply ladies. I started having dryness problems after I started taking Met. And before synthroid I never had a sexual drive period.... I thought I was not normal but that was it. All of my doctors have avoided that issue, so I just continued life like that, I've been experiencing highs and downs. I'm currently on synthroid 200 mgs and sometimes I feel as if I need more. . My cheeks get really red and hot, and I get tired and dizzy and very sleepy, and I can hear this click noise coming from my throat at times( this only happens when I get really tired) even people that are near me can listen to the noise, weird huh? I have stated to wonder if I am hashimoto instead... AT least I'm starting to feel more normal and I'm amazed to have found so many different females in this site that shared similar symptoms. It helps at least to know that I'm not by myself in this horrible journey.

You are definitely not alone. My horrible journey from the time I was diagnosed until I felt good again was nearly 11 months. I had the dizziness too, and of course I was tired all the time. I also had very weird tingling in my hands and feet that drove me crazy. I'd be sitting at my desk trying to work and all I could think about was how uncomfortable the tingling was making me. That was my first symptom to show up and my last one to go away. I would love to meet that person who said that thyroid conditions are easy to treat . . . .

While we're on the dizziniss thing...I was at yoga tonight (started going because everyone says how great it is and how much better it'll make me feel)...even slowly standing up made me feel like I was going to pass out. I've always had the dizziness although it's been really bad the last few days. If you guys are as tired and dizzy and shaky as I am, how do you deal with the whole exercise thing??

That is a tough one, I haven't been able to figure it out myself, there's been several times while at the gym that I had to just leave because I couldn't do it. I would also get really cold and even though I'm supposed to be following a healthy diet, the only thing that makes me feel better is a coke or some food, I don't know why, I think that both the hypo and pcos are feeding off each other and playing with my sugar levels maybe. I don't know hope this makes you feel as if you're not alone.

this is interesting. when i was 13 on up to 23, i had a very, very high sex drive. after i had my girl in 1999, it totally disappeared. i did have gestational diabetes with her and i'm sure before i was pregnant with her, i had hypoglycemia (no, not hyperglycemia) i was always tired and the whole nine yards. i also notice that now that i'm on levothyroxine, i'm way more tired and i have heard it can do more harm than good if it's not the correct dose (mine is 25mcg), i've been taking it for almost a month now. i'm also taking 500 metformin but i just started last wednesday so it's been a week now.

i can't stand the thought of having sex with my husband but then within 2 weeks or so of no sex, i really crave for sex so i don't understand it. i'm dizzy all the time and if i even exercise in the slightest, my body just feels completely drained. it's crazy.
