I asked my dr. if I could have a hyst. but she said no. I am 29 and have 2 daughters, we are not having anymore, husband had vasectomy. She said the problem was with my ovaries not my uterus and she would not take my ovaries. My mother had her complete hyst. in her early 30's and was on hormone replacement therapy for about 15 - 20 years with no issues. To my way of thinking, if I am done with it, my only major symptom of PCOS is no periods, wouldn't getting rid of the uterus work for me?

If I were you though I wouldn't until you were really sure you weren't going to have children.

saying a hysterectomy doesn't solve all your problems seems a bit of a generalisation to me. after all, there are several different types of hysterectomy, with different effects and results. of course you're not going to get the same effects with a sub-total as you would with a sub-total +BSO. different stuff is removed which means different issues are dealt with and different problems are being addressed.

i personally think you should do what makes you happy. life is too short to spend it miserable and in pain if you can avoid it.

Nanou: why can't you have your ovaries removed? why is it your doctor's decision?! shouldn't it be yours?! granted, ovary removal means menopause, but, dude, it's YOUR body, not hers!

in a way, we're lucky. we have the option to at least attempt to solve our problems. others are trapped in illnesses for which there is no treatment, no alleviation and no possibility of removal of the relevant bit. you have the blessing of having options to consider. consider them carefully, but make sure that your decision is YOUR decision, not friends, not doctors, not cysters (!), it is your life, and your body and you will have to live with the consequences of whatever decision you choose. no one else can make this decision for you. only you really know how you feel inside.

whatever you do, do LOTS of research before you decide.

Now on Avandamet, which is a wonder drug. Can't recommend it highly enough. Ask your doctor for it if you're worried about Metformin side effects.

I also have ME, hence the "tired" user name.

Contemplating hysterectomy but have to lose weight first.

EM6, good questions!! She says that I am too young (29) to go on hormone replacement therapy. I would have to be on it for like 20 years or so and she just said she wouldn't do it. I don't know if I could find a doctor around here that would take it all. They are all so fussy. I have no use for my uterus or my messed up ovaries, so to me, take them. I would settle for just the uterus. If it meant I didn't have to take Progrestrone every three months, bonus! I go see her again in September, and I will revisit the topic of the hysterectomy then. Your right though, it is my body and it should be my choice. I don't know why they are so resistant to it.
