Angry Hysterectomy Gone Bad - Need a Friend

Hysterectomy Gone Bad - Need a Friend

Hi my name is Shelly and I am new to the board. I apologize that I do not know all the acronyms but I really need and ear to bend. I am sorry this is long but I had a D&C on May 23rd and found out I had endometriosis. On June 10th I had a laproscopic hysterectomy and was discharged on the June 11th. On June 13th I was back in the ER and had to have emergency surgery on my colon. Apparently my OBGYN cut my colon performing the surgery and even received lab reports of this the day of my discharge on the 11th of June but failed to contact me.

His exact words on the 13th was "he was going to call me but conferred with two colleagues"! In summary I almost died. I had a BP of 70/40 and was coding when I reached the ER, became septic and spent the next 12 days in the hospital recoverying.

I just underwent surgery on July 7th for my gallbladder removal. According to the surgeon that repaired my OBGYN mistake the trauma of the colon repair and bile released in my body triggered the Gallbladder problem.

So, I will not go back to my OBGYN, I have six different incision points trying to heal, I can't move and I have began crying uncontrollably and do not know why. I know I am in pain but do not know if it is due to hormones from the hysterectomy or depression because I feel like I have been butchered.

I am hurt, angry and do not know where to turn for help or relief.

Any words of support would be appreciated.

I am so sorry that you are having all of these problems. I am also sorry that your OBGYN is an idiot. I have PCOS, Endormetriosis and Fibroids but I had to undergo an emergency c-section because my placenta had abrupted during my induction to give birth to my deceased son. My dr didn't see the endometriosis or fibroids when he had me open and I am happy for that, but my dr thinks that one day I will end up with a hysterectomy. I hope that you start to feel better and if you are feeling bad I would definitely speak to your family practice physician if you can. Maybe you need to be on a hormone replacement.

Hugz,

Adrianne

ShellyinSC-I am so sorry for all the pain and anger you have been going through. I just had an abdominal myomectomy 7/7 and in pain and I can only imagine the pain you are going through. After you get the strength and energy back I would get a real good lawyer! also if you need any more surgeries go to a reproductive specialists, I have an ob/gyn but go to a clinic 2 hrs away that specializes in reproductive surgery.

Wow!! That's so horrible! I'm so sorry you're not doing well! You've been through so much!!! I know I've had endo for 16 years...and I'm 26, it's been hell on earth and I always think about getting a hyst!! But I for sure don't want to get on a Drs "off" day like you did!! =( Poor thing!! and on top of it having your gallbladder removed??!?! Sheesh! I had that 2 years ago and it was enough BY ITSELF!!

Hang in there! Have you thought about a lawsuit??! At least you won't be in all the monthly pain!! (A look on the bright side) =)

i'm so sorry about your horrible experiences. it has been a few months since you posted this so I'm wondering how you are doing now? also, i do not know your age, but my mother is getting ready for a hysterectomy and is scared to death. i'm hoping everying is going better for you and i can share your story as a strong woman who has pulled through. right now, the endometriosis is causing complex cysts in my mom's ovaries and she is being tested for cancer, we are very scared.

if you are still using this board, i would love to hear how you got through your doctor's horrifying mistakes.

Red face Getting Better Everyday

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to update every one on my situation.

It has taken a while and several follow up appointments but I have finally been cleared by my new GYN and surgeon.

I am now on HRT patches and my energy level is finally coming back. I am back to work and I currently have a law suit against the GYN that initially did the hysterectomy. I thought about it for a long time and I can understand and forgive someone making a mistake during surgery BUT... to have a pathologist notify you that you cut a patients colon and you do not bother to notify your patient nearly cost me my life.

The real topper is the fact he told me that he "almost" called me when I went into the ER three days later with perintonitus and sepsis but he that the incision was small enough it would heal itself!!

One thing I learned out of this experience is never assume any surgery is routine no matter what they tell you.

Shelly

Good I am so glad u are doing better and suing him. I agree a mistake unknown is one thing... but for them not to call you that is a WHOLE other story!! I hope u do well and get some relief from all this stress you are under. Good luck and keep your head up!!
