Question I am constantly thirsty and my throat feels "funny"

I took my first dose of Met Friday a.m. and my mouth is so dry I am constantly drinking water. I've probably had a good 70 oz today and I usually don't drink enough water.

Also, I think one of the reasons I keep drinking water is that my throat feels "mucousy" (is that a word?) Anyway, you know how your throat feels when you have a cold and it is draining. That feeling.

I noticed a little dizziness right after taking the first pill and a little tiredness, but nothing I cannot handle.

Anyone else have the constant thirst or the mucousy throat?

Any ideas on what to do about the mucousy throat?

i've been taking met for months and I haven't noticed any extra dryness in mouth. I am always thirsty though, even prior to met, and it seems like the more water I drink the more I feel thirsty.

Are you taking your met with food? If you don't, it will cause dizziness bc it's regulating your insulin and if you have an empty tummy, your blood sugar can drop--therefore causing the dizziness.

You could be feeling "mucousy" because you're actually hydrating yourself and that's how your throat is supposed to feel. It's hard to say without knowing your history or what other meds your taking or what is normal for you. It could be a number of different things. It could be something simple like the start of a cold.

If you are concerned, talk to a docter about this. This board offers awesome medical advice and 9 times out of 10 I would listen to cysters over my docter. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't know. I haven't been steered in the wrong direction yet on Soul Cysters. I hope you get other responses. Good luck!

I definitely had this side-effect as well. It's annoying, I know, but should ease up after not too long. I mainly drank a lot of water and sucked on sugar-free hard candy. After a few weeks it disappeared and all is well now. So don't worry, it's a normal S/E that some of us ladies get.

Default Thanks ladies!!

It's nice to know it will go away eventually. Sourdaisy, thanks for the idea about sugar free candy.

I took a med for about a month (unrelated to PCOS) that was chalky (like the met is) and I had the same side effect. My throat must not like meds that are not coated

I am always thirsty too. I'm thinking it has been good for me though. I always mean to drink enough water, but it's easy to forget when you aren't thirsty. Since I started Met, there hasn't been a day when I haven't had at least four 20 oz bottles of water.

I was dx in November 08 and just began taking Metformin last month. I started out with 750 mg/ day with no side effects. When I began taking 1500 mg/day I became very lethargic, thirsty, and mooody. My doctor advised me to go back to taking 1 per day for a month to let my body adjust. This week, I have started taking 1 1/2 pills per day and now am just exeriencing the thirst. I hope by Feb. I can begin taking the full recommended dose. My question is, will these side effects go away and is there anything to help make the transition a little easier?

I thought I was the only one who had the whole mucousy throat I have been on met for about a month or so now and I have the worst muscousy taste in my mouth, I called the doc about it and she told me I had to just get used to the meds, my dh told me to try sucking a lemon (didnt work) I tried a lollipop but that was too sweet and made me nasueua so I have just been dealing with the taste . It makes me feel a little better becasue I know now that I am not imagining the taste

I am always thirsty...I drink water constantly when I'm home and whenever I leave the house I always end up buying so much bottled water. I always mean to just refill one and take it with me, but i always forget.

Sometimes at night my mouth just gets so dry I feel like I cant breathe so I am always waking up for more water.

I have been on met for over a week and am drinking 4-6 20 oz bottles of water a day...I am just so thirsty all the time!. Then I have to get up to use the bathroom a few times at night, and when I wake up in the morning, I feel like I have a hangover, which makes me think I am dehydrated! (I don't drink) Any advice you ladies could give on that would be a great help.

I drink water like it's going outta style!!! And what's weird is you'd think I'd be in the bathroom all the time but I'm not! I also notice that I get tired after I take it as well

I'm always thirsty too, and even though I drink, I'm not going to the bathroom as much!

I definitely had those side effects, even the mucousy feeling in the throat. Don't worry though, it does get better. Just make sure you are consistent. I accidentally skipped a taking a pill and took it when I remembered and it made me really sick.
