We had our annual licensing inspection/meeting today and we passed!
I'm now wondering just how crazy I am to be a foster mom + potential adoptive mom + TTCing?

Get involved in animal rescue. You won't be sorry. Your heart may break, there may be times when your eyes are red-rimmed for days. You may lose faith in the goodness of people, but your spirit will be renewed by the resilience of those you save. It isn't easy, but it's worth it. I promise you, you will be forever changed.

Congratulations!!
LOL just as crazy as the others of us that are also. Actually, I am not TTC anymore but we are licensed to foster and still waiting for that little boy we want to adopt!

Congrats! I don't think you're crazy at all. We're foster/adopt parents too. We have a 10 month old that we're absolutely in love with. If you're crazy then what am I? I'm working full time, going to grad school part time, we may be getting DFD's bio-sib when she is born in a couple of months (that will make them 1 year apart), and I may be starting as a part time adjunct professor in the fall.
I'm sure you have plenty of love for all the foster, adoptive, bio children you may have. Good luck!

Congratulations! Yes, I think that you are very crazy to open up your heart and home to potentional heartbreak. But do you know what? I would not trade the experience that we had as foster/adopt parents for anything. Unfortunately there are so many children that need you to mend them and love them. Good luck on your rollercoaster ride!

I think it's wonderful Mindi! You have a big heart and I think it's wonderful you are opening yourself up like this.

Mindi I am very happy for you. My husband and I are thinking about becoming foster parents also, what is the normal procedure, and about how long does it take. I live in CT I know every state is different but I wanted to try. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

In OUR state (MN) we had to take three weeks of classes, have references, background checks, psych evals, be fingerprinted and do tons of paperwork. We started the process before our classes, and after our classes in April 2005, we were licensed in May 2005. At the end of May 2005, we had our first placement.
Good luck to you!

Mindi - LOL...don't forget you are certifiably SANE!!!
We are still deciding whether or not we want to renew our foster licensing. We have until July to take the necessary classes. The benefit would be not having to go thru the basic classes, the paperwork, fingerprinting, etc all over again. We are wanting to adopt again and I would hate to have the same hoops to jump thru again.

I'm gonna stop looking back and starting moving on
And learn how to face my fears
Love with all of my heart, make my mark
I wanna leave something here
Go out on a ledge, without any net
That's what I'm gonna be about
Yeah, I wanna be running
When the sand runs out
