I am freaking out....! I need help from someone with a lot of knowledge plz :)
I was just diagnosed today with PCOS and I am so scared after reading up on it! My endo. acted like it was anything and I left the office thinking wow now my acne will clear up. Little to know, when i got home to read about this I have been having serious anxiety.
I am only 21 years old, 5'1, 100lbs (underweight) and I am on yasmin which has lowered my testosterone big time since being on it! The endo. just told me I am insulin resistance and have PCOS. I am so scared about increased breast cancer, endometrial, and heart attacks/strokes when I have always thought I am extremely healthy My periods used to be regular all the time til I went on BC pills and then stopped taking them in the middle of my cycle and they wrecked havoc on my periods since then.....I get a period every 3 weeks but it last 7days with spotting only like at day 1 and 2.
I am just shocked to hear that I have this being that I'm underweight and healthy. He is putting me on metformin along with the yasmin that I am on now. The yasmin has cleared up my face now that I'm in month 3 and dont see a need to go on metformin, but i guess i have to since i am insulin resistance?
No one in my family has this or any kind of problems and they have all had acne until like around 23.....None of them have had trouble having kids either.
Should I try using a natural approach or just getting on meformin?
The risks of all these cancers is making me have really bad anxiety!
Ok slow down and breathe. The Internet is a scary place when your diagnosed with something. All the bad info seems to take over anything positive. Yes it sucks but once you get everything under control you will be fine, heck you wil be better than fine since you have the knowledge and are able to be aware of what *MIGHT* happen. Start of reading the information in the help forum read the articles not all of them are as scary as just a plain google search. You are 21 years old your weight is under control and you are working towards being more healthy! Everything will turn out ok. As far as kids are concerned if your not looking into starting your family now then I would say don't obsess over that part MANY MANY cysters have gone on to have a child(ren). Let everything sink in before you go google crazy! Good luck glad you found us!

Hello and welcome to SC!!! I am also a thing cyster I am not underweight but I have never had any weight issue and I am also insulin reistant, like the pp just take a moment a breathe and try to relax!! Although right now you are probably feeling extremly overwhelmed due know that with the right treatment you can get this under control!!! First off I think Met is probably a good choice the side effects are terrible at first but after your body adjusts you will be fine and them some women have 0 side effects!! Plus met may help regulate your body and when the time comes that you are ready for children it may help with that also. Like the pp said a lot of cysters have went on to have beautful healthy babies, and although some of us like me have been trying for awhile I never give up hope and everyone here is great to talk with. The goodthing is that you are healthy and you are getting the treatment you need now before you start a family!! Never be afraid to ask a ??? if you are wondering trust me someone else is either wondering also or they have been where you are. Good Luck to you and feel free to message me anytime!!! (((((HUGS))))) and goodvibes to you!!!
Thank you ladies so much I have honestly never been to a more helpful website! I have calmed down
(after of course I couldnt sleep all night!) Anyways, is it common to be IR and thin? I'm scared the met is going to make me lose weight and I DO NOT need that lol.
Also, Im finding that the yasmin has made me depressed and not hungry. I'm also sometimes nautious/dizzy. I made an appt. with my gyno to see about getting like on YAZ or something bc yasmin has cleared up my face I just dont like how it's made me feel. Has anyone else felt this way on yasmin or do I need to seek help?

Yes, it is possible to be thin and IR however most of the time IR is associated with weight gain or extra weight. Are you taking met? Sometimes met can make me dizzy and nasuea(sp?) if I don't eat for long periods of time I think this is due to low blood sugar. Yaz never gave me those side effects so I'm not sure about it. Call your doc and ask, can't hurt right?

hi jenn, welcome to the board! i'm being assessed for PCOS right now (are waiting for test results!), so i can't say for sure that i have PCOS, but i wanted to comment, cos, like you, i am underweight as well.
we tend not to think of being underweight as a unhealthy... but it is! something you might want to look into.... my natropath put me on protein powder shakes to help boost my weight and muscle mass. she says this will help improve the body's ability to better regulate the hormones.... so being underweight can be a disadvantage with PCOS.
