I was getting ready to send my home study application in the mail, but something told me to review the paperwork requirements again and I saw this one requirement that states we need to take a child care course?! Does anyone know what this class is? My problem is that we were registered to take classes through the county, and the home study agency said we did not have to take them we would have to get 2 books review them and the social worker would give us a test after we complete the books, my boyfriend thought that was a great idea because it does not want to sit in class. The first time I communicated with this agency they said the only other class I had to take as a requirement for their agency was Infant/Child CPR. Sorry this is so long I'm just getting really discouraged about this whole process. We have painted the room, bought all of the furniture for the baby, bought baby bedding and even a outfit for him or her to come home in. I hope this works out.
These requirements were part of our adoption agency requirements so we took an infant CPR course through our local adult education facility. We took a child care course from a hospital. The experience was a little uncomfortable for us since we were the only couple that wasn't pregnant, but the class was great It was just a 4 hour class that we took on a saturday. I would suggest checking out local hospitals for these types of classes. I know it seems silly now, but if you were giving your baby to someone, wouldn't you want them to have this information? I would. Good luck & keep the faith!! ~Ann

After 4 miscarriages, we are moving on to adoption. We are looking to adopt a bi-racial baby from a private agency in Florida.
All adoption paperwork is done and we are patiently (ha!) waiting for our little dream come true!

The homestudy agency will probably either offer a class, or give you a list of places where you can find classes. Our first homestudy agency let us do the books instead of the course. At the time we thought it was great. For our second homestudy, we were required to take the course. Now, we've been caring for a child for 2 years now, so for us it was kind of like review, but we wished we had taken it before we brought our son home! It sounds scary, but it's really valuable information!! Best of luck to you

I'm sure what they are referring to is the CPR class. You might see if there is an Child & Infant CPR class online that fulfills their criteria.
I think what I hear you saying is that you guys are frustrated by all the hoops that we have to jump through in order to adopt and I kind of feel the same way. I understand why it's all important but some things just feel like if it's such a requirement then why are adoptive parents the only people to have to do them. Why not have all parents be required to have classes before they take baby home from the hospital??
I'm feeling a little insulted right now by the fact that I have to wait 6 months for a judge to tell me that our daughter is ours. Once again I understand why but in some ways it's just hurtful that legally it's not all over.
Come December though I am going to be one happy Mommy and when you've gotten through all this paperwork and classes and you have your baby in your arms it will be all worth it too! Hang in there!

Actually it is another class other than the infant cpr class, the agency e-mailed me and told me I can call around to different hospitals because they all are suppose to offer that class! I wish it was just the cpr class, well like I keep saying nothing in life is easy so I might as well just try to deal with it.
We had to take a baby basics class too... and infant CPR. Its basically a class on how to take care of an infant... if you're first time parents I've heard a lot of agencys require it! Best of luck!
It too was uncomfortable for us because we were not pregnant, but I realized thru the class that we knew more about pregnancy and child development than those who were pregnant! They all wanted to know how I knew so much, and I even blew the instructor out of the water a few times with some of the tips I gave. None of them understood how we knew so much! I just told them all that with 4 yrs of infertility you have a lot of time to read! lol
