Well I am a newbee. I am 26 years old I have a seven year old daughter who I now know is my miracle baby. I didnt get pregnant for three years and then poof there she was. At 11 years of age I started my period. they were never regular. I had lots of cramping, andsevere abdominal pain. My doctor wrote it off as being cysts. He wanted me to go on the pill. well that did absolutely nothing buthurt me even worse. I was a very active teen. Into cheerleading. I exercised everyday for 5 hours in the summer and 2 in the schoolyear. I always stayed plump. never lost or gained. I stayed at 150lbs. That would have been ok except I am 5ft even. I always thought I was fat because my dad is. I also have alot of breast pain and leakage. I am trying to get my doctor to go further into it. It scares me. I also want to have another babie, I just remarried and My husband and I want one togethre. I am on Metformin. We shall see where this takes me. I am not going to be too optomistic. I just wonder if I have always had this syndrom or did it just start and am I more at risk for diabetis?
Aubrey
Welcome to Soulcysters. Home you make yourself home here. I don't know where I'd be if I never found this place.....
Usually PCOS is heriditary. Yes PCOSer's are at high risk for Diabetes. We should be checked for Diabetes and IR at least once a year. Also at risk for heart disease and certain cancers....I would do some major research. I've found out I had PCOS in 2002, and still learning things.
Good luck, and hope to see ya around,

Thank you all for replying. I have a silly question, Is it possible to feel ovulation, or whatever it is that occures when we are supposed to ovulate. I can feel my ovaries, I know it. It hurts so bad. I think I am going to start, is it possible I am feeling cysts grow?
I want you to search endometreosis
You will find lots of posts here. But You also need to read several other online places to get a feel for what it is.
I am in a time crunch right now or I would list it all for you.
Here is the short version...
It sounds like you have an issue with cysts. Which when they burst can cause the endo cells to spread through the pelvic area.
You need to find a GYN surgen that can do a LAP to go in and see just what you have going in there. It is major surgery. You will need to be off work at least 2 weeks to heal.
I found about about endo by searching for causes of cronic urinary track infections. I then found a GYN surgen, went in and said "My reg doctor suspects endo and suggested I come see you" That was all this guy needed. I didn't tell him "I" found it.
I was right. I had stage 3 endo. My right tube and ovary was distroyed and caused scar tissue to form. That is the main reason for pelvic pain.
I'll check back here to answer any questions you may have.
Did I mention that other than PCOS...endo is in the top 3 reasons for infertility issues?

Well I talked to my OB about endo and he said he really doesnt think so. AF actually did show up so that is why I was feeling it, but what it actually was is what I have no clue. Can endo feel like pain in a localized area? I actually hurt only where my ovaries are, no back pain or lower pelvic, just in the ovary area. It feels like a pinching sensation, but it get pretty bad. Is that what endo feels like?
Aubrey
If the pain is in the area of the ovaries, it could just be cysts.
With endo, your monthly AF can become more and more painful as the endo spreads, as it can in some.
One way to tell if you have endo, if you have adverse pain or other symptoms when you try to take BCP, you could have it.
The estrogen in the BCP can make the pain worse each month.
Endo is cell tissue that sheds each month like your AF.
When your hormones triggers your normal AF, your endo will flare as well.
My pain began with my right ovary hurting all the time.24/7
Then I had more and more back and leg pain/cramps.
By the time I got the DX, I had monthly cronic UTIs,24/7 pelvic pain, weight gain, fluid retention in hands and feet, severe muscle pain through out my body. I was a mess.
I am doing better now, still dealing with the residual issues.

I am sorry you are going thru this pain right now. Iknow how you feel. I have always had major pain when I would have my periods, to the point that I would be outta work during the 5-9 days that it would happen. Major clotting would happen as well. All other times, I have had some major ovarian pains, very sharp, like someone was stabbing me in the side. I was checked out for Endo, but thankfully it wasn't just more cysts appearing and popping on my ovaries.
I hope you get to the bottom of your pain soon. Patty is right see if you can get a LAP or even an u/s.
I know I am not much help, but I wanted to let you know that there are others on here that go thru alot of pain like you do as well.
Please let us know what happens! Take Care of you.

A really important thing to remember when researching this stuff is that it's all theory. It's best if you do your own research, both on and off this site, and form your own opinion about how PCOS works. Also, keep in mind that everyone's not going to agree with your assessment no matter how much research you've done.
Personally, based on my personal experience and research, I don't think PCOS is something you're born with. I don't think it's hereditary, otherwise all siblings in a family with PCOS would have it. I think it's like cancer in that it's something you're genetically predisposed to, but may never have a problem with if you're lifestyle choices are good. PCOS is a collection of symptoms (a syndrome) caused by hormones imbalances. If you never develop those hormone imbalances, or don't develop them to the extent that they cause problem, then PCOS will never present. Possibly PCOS will present, but only a symptom or two, that are never considered a problem, so there is never a diagnosis. Everyone's circumstances are unique, so each individual case will be unique. That's why it's so important to do your own research, and form your own theories--no two cases are just alike, and no one knows your case like you do.
Good luck to you!
Christa
