I am new..have lots of questions. Can anyone help?
Hi,
I am new to Soulcysters and have so many questions. I hope someone can help guide me.
I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 15. But never got any treatment. Well they did put me on BCP's but that didnt work. I am now 25 years old and am ready to do something about it. I am tired of being fat and extremely tired of plucking, waxing, etc.!!!!
I just recently got myself some insurance to see someone about it but I dont know who to see. Should I see a regular physician? I have been told the best person to see is an ENDOCRINOLOGIST. Has anybody on here seen one? Is this the best person to see?
I have scheduled an appoitment for October 2, 2008. But am unsure if this is the right idea. They say they specifically deal with Thryoid and Diabetes. I dont want it to be a wasted trip.
CAN ANYONE HELP GUIDE ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION..PLEASE
Welcome !!!
Its Great That You Are Deciding To Take Control Of This Disorder. Reguardless Of Who You Go To, You Need To Research Everything Yourself. Be Responsable For Your Own Health.
Well I See A Re (reproductive Endo) And She Has Put Me On Birth Control, Metformin And Spiro ( For The Hair Growth). I Would Find Someone That Is Knowledgable About Pcos And Have Treated Women W/it. Its Ok To Interview The Dr. You Are Going To See B4 Your Appt.
The Met Has Helped Me To Be Able To Lose Wt. I Couldn't Seem To B4. I Am Getting Laser For The Hair Growth Along W/ The Spiro.

Dx.: March 2008
TTC (seriously) since 2009
Meds:
Metformin 500mg
PCOS Symptoms:
No Cycles( unless forced by BCP)
Facial hair( well the hair is pretty much everywhere)
An Endocrinologist is the right person to see. I spent years being referred to ob/gyns who knew what pcos was, but their treatment was a bit different -- medroxyprogesterone to induce periods, and birth control long term to bring them back... then I went to an Endocrinologist who specialized in Pre-Diabetes (which lots of cysters are in the category of) and she prescribes Metformin for PCOS. Some people choose to go the natural route and see a Naturopathic Doctor (N.D.)
I hope no matter who you see, that you get the treatment that works best for you, and a good caring doctor as well!
Thank you everybody. I feel much much better. This is a wonderful site. i wish I would have known about it earlier.
Anyone please feel free to add me as a friend!
Thanks again!
welcome to sc i see an endo, too. (hormone dr). What id suggest is to write down everything that you want to ask/say to your dr so you cant forget. Thats what i always do. All the best for your dr visit tomorrow.
