Hi I am new here. I am 32 and was diagnosed 7 months ago. I have always been 5'5 and about 133 pds. All of a sudden I put on 70 pds in 7 months and my cycles went crazy. I didn't do anything different and couldn't figure out what was wrong. I had numerous tests and finally a diagnosis. The endo offered me met back in May but I refused and tried to lose the weight on my own. I have never eaten very much but I cut down and made sure to only eat 1200 calories a day. I lost maybe a few pds. but nothing major. Anyway, my cycles are even worse now. About 60 days apart and the weight is just getting to me. Anyway, I just started met today. I am looking forward to feeling better and losing weight. How long did it take for all of you to lose weight?? How long did it take for all of you to get your cycles straight?? I have 2 wonderful little boys that are 5 & 7 so I am not trying to get pregnant. Thanks in advance and I am so happy to have this board to come to

Welcome Cyster!
I havent started Met yet so I cant comment on that, but I am sure the ladies here will be able to answer that for you! This is a great place with lots of information and support!
Hello and Welcome to SC!
We are glad that you joined us!
Don't be discouraged that no one has been able to answer your questions yet....somebody will come along that can help.
I do know that I took met once for about 2 months and lost 20 lbs.
I also got pregnant and that is why I stopped.
I am hoping to get back on it soon.
Good Luck!
WEll I am on Met and I have been for 8 months now. But I don't have good news for you. I have yet to loose any weight while on Met. It also hasn't regulated my cycles either. So I am still on it but it hasn't really helped me.
However there are so many people on this site that love met and have has such great results so don't give up hope.
Love,
Emily

I too was on met. but like Emily I found it didnt really help me with my symptoms and I didnt like the side affects and so I stopped taking it I dont think I gave it a fair chance so I am going to speak to my doctors to see about giving it another go.. But there are loads of women that seem to have good effects from taking it so good luck!
I'm on Met and I am finding it has helped. Of course my dr has paried it with Topamax, so I'm not sure how much is which med. Not only am I loosing weight, but for me, a lot of the side afffects I had from Met went away when i began eating a proper diet and exercising. Plus I feel a LOT better!! I don't know if just the meds alone will help without changing your lifestyle to a healthier one.
I'm not sure if that helped, but I hope so. If you ever need to talk, feel free to PM me!
I'm on Met. It certainly regulated my cycles because I got pregnant. I lost about 5 lbs with it, but I'm not really overweight to start with. I'd expect that it will help you. The initial side effects should get rid of a few pounds pretty quickly. A low GI diet seems to work for PCOS ladies. You might want to look into that, too. Be sure you are getting enough calories for your activity level. If you cut back too much you will stall your weight loss. Your body will try to hold on to everything it's got. Good luck!

Welcome to S/C. I've been on Met since last October, and hadn't lost any weight until this summer, when I finally realised it was up to me to control the types of food I ate. I've since dropped 6kgs, about 12lbs, and I'm currently eating using the Insulin resistance diet.
Yea, I got the side effects, but they went away soon enough.
Big hugs.

How are you feeling on the met? I'll tell you what helped me when I started met: (I learned the hard way because I hadn't found SC yet!) I took the met right in the middle of my meal, I reduced carbs, and I started at a lower dose (500 mg) and moved up gradually.
I had begun to lose weight before I was put on met, and I did continue while I was on met. All said and done, I lost 100 pounds in about a year. Then I got pregnant.
My periods started improving the first month I took met, but it was a couple more months before they were really "normal". But the good news is I saw some improvement right away, my period the month I started met was not nearly as heavy as the previous one had been and it started pretty close to on time!
Hope this helps cyster, best wishes with your met!
Hugs
Jenny

Hi AJ - The same thing happened to me - I had gained 70 pounds within 6 months and barely noticed!! When I started met, it took me a good 9 months to a year to lose the weight and I'm not even all the way done (about 25pds away). Met didn't regulate my cycle, but I think I'm one of the few... Good luck to you!!!
