Wow and to think that a minute ago I was the only one in the province with this thing lol. I was diagnosed a month or two ago and I am still a lil in the state of denial. (I am a bad ass lately and I am splurging on foods that I know are bad for me . I am curious to know about your stories.
I lived in Ottawa pretty much all of my 42 years until last summer, when we moved to Atlanta for a year (I think). I really miss the city, and will be coming home at Christmas for 2 weeks to be with my family.
I even miss the snow, which I understand y'all have right now (a little early, I'd say.) The weather is pretty nice down here...just need a fleece sweater to go out, but I'd be REALLY happy to walk in some new snow right now.
Glad you found the board!

So glad to know there are others about. I've had the pleasure of meeting Nancy (Nantucket) and spending some time with her before babe #2 was born. Her daughter is sooo cute
I'm Amanda (26) and I live with my dh and our two adorable boys (a six-year-old and a seven-week-old) on the Quebec side, in Aylmer. So we're basically in the city, about five minutes from Ottawa itself.
I know this thread is old, but is anyone else still around? Let's get to know each other
Take care!
Amanda

Hi my name is Amanda too. I grew up in Aylmer and actually me and my BF just moved to Ottawa from Aylmer a few months ago. I am 21. I am not sure if the others are still around but I am. I am still new to all this stuff. Well I have known for 4 months but I was in complete denial. But now I am smarting up. I got the PCOS Diet Book from my bf's mom she got it in the U.S so that is teaching me alot.
I moved to Ottawa when I was 16. My dh and I bought a home here three years ago, which is when I moved back. It works out well, since my parents live about 3km from here - free babysitting!
How do you like the book? Is it a low-carb approach? I'm not on a diet (would be a bad idea since I'm breastfeeding) but I'm always interested in how people are treating their PCOS. I've taken a very natural approach to it, but there are a lot of other ways, too.
Take soon,
Amanda

Hi all!! I was just wondering if since the weather is nice now-except for the rain lately that you might all be interested in getting together somewhere outdoors-maybe a picnic or a trip to the beach??
I was actually thinking that best place would be at Vincent Massey Park since it seems to be a central location since we seem to either all be way east or way west of the city.
Nancy
oh and I'm attaching a new pic of my munchkins

Just wondering if I could ask you cysters with children a few questions...
Did you have problems when ttc? If so, did you go to a RE here in Ottawa & who was it? Also, what meds did/do you take?
If you took Metformin to get pg, did you stay on it or d/c when you discovered you were pg?
Whew!!! Lotta ?'s I know, but I am so torn, especially when it comes to the stay or Met or d/c Met issue. My RE (Dr Haebe @ the Parkdale Clinic) is pushing for me to stop Met if I become pg again. He said the same last time but I was terrified to m/c again & I was able to persuade him to at least let me stay on it until I saw if my beta was rising appropriately (it wasn't, so I never had to face the Met decision).
Just wondering if it's the general concensus of Drs around here that Met be d/c'd?? Dr Haebe says it's "the policy" of the Parkdale Clinic that Met be stopped... but I wonder if there are other Drs in Ottawa who disagree??

[b]Bethany-I see Dr.Leader at the Parkdale clinic and he is the chief RE there. He too STOPS met as soon as you get pg. It seems to be the general concensus throughout the whole hospital as when I was pg with Josh and things were going awry and I needed to be seen by the high risk unit Dr.Twagaii asked me if I had stopped the met, and so did my OB Dr.Shenassa who works out of the civic.
We tried for 5 years before we finally smartened up and went to our family doc to get a referreal to an RE. I feel extremely fortunate that I was able to get in to see Dr.Leader. We were lucky as well that the first month I was on 100mg of Clomid and I got pg. For Josh the first month of 100mg failed so we added 1000mg Met-and I got pg. But I was carrying triplets and M/C at 7 weeks 4 days. My progesterone was very low-we had been trying the prometrium but it didn't work fast or well enough I guess. We were shocked when at 13 weeks I found out I was still pg with josh-and so was Dr.Leader. I had been taking the met-becuase I didn't think I was pg. At 22 weeks during a routine u/s they discovered a HUGE cyst on the placenta...about the size of a large grapefruit. Thankfully it began to shrink and was gone almost completely by 29 weeks. It resulted from 1 of 2 things. 1-leftover fetal tissue from the other babies, or it was from the met. Neither Dr.Leader nor Dr.Twagaii could say for sure. But it scared me enough that I would never intentionally take Metformin knowing that I was pregnant again.
This time around TTC#3 has been harder. I have done 3 failed cycles of Clomid-up to the max of 200mg. I am now Clomid resistant and this month I did my first round of a new drug called Femara.
Okay so I probably old you more than you wanted to know-sorry, LOL!
