Well, I've had my appointment with my doctor.. and well i'm no longer satisfied.. doesn't return my calls, go in her office and its as if its a "hi, here's your new prescription, try this, see you in 3 months, bye" kinda thing.. and I don't want that so I am on the search for a new doctor because i'm sick of feeling like a guinea pig. I'm sure she knows her stuff quite well.. but I'm not confortable with her.. Straight to the point as i mentioned in a previous post is right.
Last week, I go see her, my hair loss is quite a bother. She gave me a prescription, though i asked or for side effects because i don't want the hair loss to worsen should this not be the right meds for me, its as though she didn't want to take the time to answer. I told her i was also taking green tea tablets and flax seed oil, and the tone in her voice was really cold when she said "what for" as though she doesn't appreciate my trying things that could possibly help me out.. meh! I feel depression kicking in soon and I want to avoid it as much as possible.
Sorry for ranting. I'll ask you this though, i know its a long shot but my family doctor told me she wants me to be comfortable with my doctors... So if you can tell me who you are seing and what your experiences have been concerning your doctor, his/her knowledge and understanding of PCOS and TTC, how he/she treats patients, do they take the time to talk or its a hi and bye type thing.. you know, things like that.. it would be greatly appreciated.. I could then ask my family doctor to make a recommendation and such.
Thanks for your help!
Melanie

Hi everyone. I'm not sure if anyone's still reading this forum, but I thought I'd add my own bit in here anyway.
I'm in Ottawa too and have been living here for about 4.5 years. Moved from BC to go to school and have decided to stay (thanks in part to a wicked boyfriend who I don't want to leave behind!)
I've been lurking around these boards for a while, but figured now's a good of time as any to reply.
my story: was diagnosed at 16 or 17 (am 22 now) and not much has happened other than being put on birth control. When I came to Ottawa, I visited the university's health clinic and the doctors there told me that since "it hasn't been bothering me" for that long, there's no need for a referral or anything.
now, I'm done school and am without even a GP. Ideally I'd like to find a specialist to get some things under control (the usuals, like hair growth, weight, etc.) but, it seems as though it's impossible to find a doc who is accepting new patients in this city. (anyone know of any?)
I'm not too concerned with the fertility issue. I accepted the fact years ago that children were not likely going to happen, so now I'm pretty confident that I don't even want them and am treating PCOS as a somewhat 'blessing in disguise.'
anyways, that's me. From lurking around here for a while I can say I really like this board. There are somethings that not even our friends, families or lovers can understand, but chances are there will be someone here who does.
Hi everyone! I'm in Ottawa also. I was diagnosed in August 2003 and started on BCP. I have my periods again (after years without) but haven't lost much of the 70+ pounds that I gained. I want to lose weight so badly but damn it's so hard! Also, I'm 21 years old and I'm in college part time. I'm engaged and will be getting married possibly in June 2005. Hope to talk to you all soon!
Also my doctor is Dr. Nicolletti at College Square Medical Centre, I'm not sure if he is accepting new patients anymore or not but he diagnosed me (which my old doctor could not do) and is pretty cool. He isn't an expert on PCOS or anything but as soon as I told him my symptoms it was the first thing he thought of. So if anyone wants to check him out I recommend doing so!

I sort of feel the same way. I never have had an interest in having kids. When I was diagnosed and the doctor went over all the fertility stuff I was like "I don't care, I don't want kids" but he didn't believe me! Everyone always tells me I'll change my mind but I doubt it, I've felt this way as long as I can remember.
wan2bemama - I'm scheduled to see Dr. Barwin next month - my GP raved about him, but now I'm questioning this. She said he is an infertility specialist and I just assumed he was an endo. Any opinion / concerns would be so helpful.
Yep! This thread is a little slow though
I will be ttc #2 soon... but I want to wait a couple more months so I am not too far along to go to my brother's wedding in St. Lucia in November
I hope I have any easier time getting pg with & keeping the next baby!
What is everyone else up to?

Hey! I'm still here. Update haven't lost a damn pound since I have been diagnosed but haven't really gained either. I have no willpower seriously... I would love to meet up with some Ottawa gals sometime!
I'm still here too.
I was trying to get a group together via MeetUp.com but I had to drop it because the service is no longer free.
Glad to see that there are quite a few Ottawa cysters around

Hey! I am still here. I don't think I mentioned this in any of my other posts in this thread - but I also go to the Parkdale clinic - but I see Dr. Kotarba . . . does anyone else see her?
Hey Bethers - why don't we try to get a group meet-up just from this thread? It looks to me like there would be a lot of interest. I would be willing to help you. Let me know

Does anyone want to do a meet up once a month? I know there are people who live outside of Ottawa, so we can find a time that suits them too.
The more the merrier!

I would love to have a monthly get together. I would really like to get to know people in the area that are going through the same stuff as I am! I think it would be great.
