Alright well I am so confused on how all works. I was watching Discovery health and they had patient that have Hormonal Imbalance and it sounded like they were PCOS ladies but didn't say anything like that. I was diagnosed June 2004. I was on BCP for 5 yrs since 2001. Right now I haven't chart like I am supposed to I just go day by day and do what I need to do. Well I was sitting having one of those days where all I want to do is cry and ask god "Why me" I haven't asked the Why Me God part yet but I sure have cried like no other. I started taking MACA 1000mg a day, Metformin 2000mg a day, Prenatals and Dr Prescribed Phentermine 30mg a day.......So Far the only good thing about Met is that it has helped me lose weight...........I just started taking MACA on 5-31....Where I am confused is ........ How come Dr love to tell u that u can't have kids..unless we do, and pay all this money for fertility treatments but those women on Discover Health didn't believe them and got pregnant and had healthy babies...... Why do we do what we do to be happy...? I so want to give up but then at the same time........I Know God wants me to be happy sooo.....I get confused and frustrated

My RE told me a lot of women with PCOS do get pregnant and don't even know they have PCOS. Women with PCOS also have a high miscarriage rate though, around 50%, which is reduced greatly by taking Met. So I dunno, I have never been told I must use fertility drugs to get pregnant. Have you taken more then 100mg of Clomid yet to induce ovulation? I have a couple of friends that never O'ed at 100mg, but once at 150mg they did.

i read "poly cystic ovary syndrome: the hidden epidemic" by dr. samuel thatcher, who is an expert in PCOS and he said 90% of women with PCOS can get pregnant with metformin alone. it just takes longer.
i had the ovarian drilling and it started my cycle reg. i'm about to go on a round of clomid and hope it works. met wouldn't work for me. except for the weight. good luck.

Dee - I am a woman that was told she would NEVER get pregnant without fertility drugs or IVF. I took Met for 2 months last year. I stopped it without dr permission. Six months later, I was pregnant. Although, I did not "listen" to my symptoms because that dr told me I would NEVER get pregnant with out the meds or IVF. If I hadn't listened to her, the new dr might have been able to save my left tube.
I am a true believer that eating right, exercise, and faith will help in not only getting pregnant but carrying to term.
Best wishes!

I started taking Met in 2000. I finally got pg in 2003. I lost that baby but I turned around and got pg again and delievered a healthy baby in 04 and then got pg again in 05. I firmly believe that Met is what helped me get pg. I was told I would never get pg! I showed them.
I know it is so hard. I struggle also, so please do not feel like you are alone. There are so many others out there that understand.
Mood swings is a common side effect of PCOS. According to dr it is the hormones trying to regulate themselves. I used to have a spell of depression right around O time. As I have tried to take control by eating healthier, I notice they started to subside.
There are plenty of people here to help you through this.
Take Care!

Diana, I'm in the same boat as you. Not able to conceive even with 150mg of Clomid.
My hubby and I have tried since 2002. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2004. I've tried so many different combinations and dosages of medicine that it just makes a person's head spin. I was first put on Metformin (500mg) along with Provera (to help with periods). The Provera created severe cramping and abnormally heavy bleeding when my periods arrived, so I stopped taking those. My Metformin was increased steadily until I was at 1500mg. They also introduced Clomid with the Metformin, starting at 50mg and increasing to 150mg. But it didn't work. The high dosage of Metformin was making me really nauseous, so I stopped taking it. I toughed it out as best I could, but it was just too much for me. I changed doctors, and found a more PCOS-friendly doctor.
They put me on Prometrium to help induce periods. It was gentler and safer than Provera. They then started me on 50mg of Clomid and tested my blood for an increase in ovulation hormones. It went up slightly, but we didn't conceive. They increased to 100mg, my blood levels went down. It confused the dr. Still no pregnancy. They increased to 150mg, it went up slightly but not enough to indicate ovulation took place. No pregnancy.
They added 1500mg Metformin to the mix, but in topical form. It was an ointment I had to rub on my wrists 3 times a day. But that didn't work.
I took a break from the meds and concentrated on diet and exercise. I've lost 23 pounds since January, and my periods arrived twice without the aid of medication.
My dr now wants to put me on Actos since I was bothered by Metformin. And since I didn't respond to Clomid, which she said can happen with some women, then she wants to put me on Letrozole (aka Femara). They've also tested my blood for testosterone levels, but I haven't received the results yet. she also wanted to do a laproscopy and check for endometriosis and do an HSG (check for tube blockage).
I haven't agreed to all that just yet. I've recently started the Insulite supplement system, and I'm going to see how that works for me. If I can reverse the effects of PCOS naturally, then that would be awesome.
