So i have been trying to solve my issues with this stupid syndrom. But I am still confused. I find it hard to read my own boldily signals. My doc told me i have insulin resisitance and a slightly elivated cholesteral level. So if you have insulin resistance what does that have to do with blood sugar? What signs should I look for in terms of maintaing my own insulilln/ sugar levels? Should I eat 6 small meals a day? What have you found that has worked for you?
(I know what your thinking maybe i should have asked some of these questions to my doc...but i didn;t so any help you can give is great)
Thanks
Your body uses insulin to process blood sugar. IR (insulin resistance) is often a precursor to diabetes...consider it a built-in warning system.
For me, it helps to eat more small meals per day. I also have to exercise 30 minutes/day at least four times a week (otherwise, my body stops working properly). I don't eat any refined carbs (no potatoes, white rice, or processed sugar). Instead, I build my diet around lower-glycemic/lower-carb veggies and lean meats.
There is a great book out there called "The PCOS Diet Book." That is my Bible...it lays out so many of the nutritional deficiencies that go along with this syndrome!
I know this is all overwhelming right now, but after awhile, you'll be an expert.

At least the way it was explained to me by my nutritionist, IR is when your body can't control the sugars in your body/food with the normal amount of insulin. It causes it to produce more insulin than you would normally need. It can make it much harder for us to lose weight and can also be a contributing factor in the physical appearance of cysts of on our ovaries. That's what I've been told at least!
The diet that was suggested to me allows me to eat 135 grams of carbs a day and that helps to control the sugar in the body and therefore keeps the insulin levels lower.
The research is VERY clear that regular exercise works WONDERS for controlling IR. If weight loss is a concern, the MINIMUM amount of exercise is 300 minutes per week.
Diet alone is not the best course of action in women with pcos.
So what you are saying is that I need to get off my butt and start moving????? I knew this was gonna be Fun! in the end i hope to be pregnant, thinner, and much healther!!!!
Here's to a new start!

We just started a new bootcamp this week, so you're right on time.
WARNING: We don't play around over there. We keep it fun...but we also keep it 'fitness oriented'. Why? Because it's done great things for many cysters!
Be there or be square!
