I started taking Met a week and a half ago (3/31) and have moved up to 1000 mg dose from 5 days at 500mg. That first week I had all the GI side effects. I felt good on Saturday and decided to have a frozen pizza (I was just craving it). Not a good idea - I woke up sick at 5:30 am Sunday morning. yuck! Yesterday we had a lunch presentation at work and they provided pizza, so I decided to test myself again. I only had a slice and a half (and felt so full), but didn't have any bad side effects!
I have been sticking to a whole grain or low carb diet otherwise.
I take Met and sometimes I can eat carby products and be ok and sometimes I will eat something and be in the bathroom all night...it is a weird thing.

You got lucky. Sometimes I can eat carb-rich foods and other times, it's metformin revenge time.
