I've been doing acupuncture since June of 04. I really liked what it did for my body, but still had a lot of trouble with headaches (I've had daily headaches for over 20 years). So, I thought I'd see a naturopath to try some herbs since I can't use any Western drugs while TTC.
She put me on an herbal regimen about a month ago, and I'm really starting to see some changes! my cycle is MUCH more smooth (check out my temps! They're even!), and my AF was even shorter last month than it was doing acupuncture alone! I'm hoping I O soon too, which would mean earlier O (tho I'm not holding my breath).
When I found out I had PCOS, I wanted to throw drugs at the problem. I even thought that for TTC, we'd use all the fertility drugs available. I'm really discovering that the "natural" route (acupuncture and herbs) is VERY powerful!
Just wanted to share my story, just in case anyone was considering herbs, but weren't sure if they'd work. You can see a full list of herbs on my FF homepage. Since she's a naturopath, most of my herbs are in tinctures, so I'm not on the same dose you'd be if you purchased the same herbs in capsules.
The places they stick the needles varies from session to session, depending on what's going on. You may want to get the book "The Infertility Cure," by Rnadine Lewis to help you understand the different TCM dx and how to work on them. She illustrates the points and tells you which ones to use, depending on your problem. She has a whole chapter on PCOS (even though in TCM, PCOS isn't a dx). The skill of the practitioner is VERY important, and I usually find that chinese trained professionals are the best.
You can see a list of the herbs I'm taking on my FF home page. They are prescribed by a naturopath, so I can't really tell you the dosages. She makes tinctures (drops that you mix with water), and it just doesn't translate. I really encourage you to try again, maybe with a different acupuncturist? The book I recommended will help you figure out if anything is changing because you can check off the list of symptoms you have. You may not recognize things as changing until you see that list of symptoms. For instance, having a cold abdomen, cold hands and feet are symptoms, as is urinating at night, or loose bowels. Lots of weird things that may seem like they have nothing to do with fertility may get better, and you wouldn't realize it unless you knew to pay attention.
I Ovulated on CD14 this month!!! That is amazing since my cycles used to be 50-90 days, often without ovulation at all!
The only naturopath in my area is one that is a naturopath-chiropractor. I read on the doctor's pamplet that she does a series of muscle tests to fix sickness. Do you think she would prescribe herbs to me and then I buy them and follow her recommendations? Tell me more how it works.
Sounds great - I am seeing a naturopath on Thursday that specialises in PCOS - I am really looking forward to it. She uses herbs and homeopathy.
Eilonwy - That sounds like kinseology...I had that done once but I have to say I didn't love it. Maybe do a google search on it and see what you think.
