I went to the dr. and he did some blood work and hormone testing (LH, FSH, PROLACTON, THIROID, ) every thing came back normal. He put me on Metoformin and I did get my period after 45 days on my own. I went back two months later and he put me on estrogen only bcp, cause he seemed to think my estrogen might be low. I had even more hair loss, and I went back to the dr. He said there is somehthing he is missing, and is sending me to an OBGYN, this thursday. I think I have PCOS, I have almost every symptom, but my hormones and blood work was fine (how could this be?) I am very emotional about my hair loss. I can part it and comb it over and you can't tell, but it is getting so bad, i dont' know how much longer I can hide it. I have been given the run around for years with drs. I am afraid that this OBGYN won't take me seriously. I am only 25, I don't want to wear a wig !!!!! I would like to know if any of you have pcos, but had normal blood work, and how were you dx? I am so scared! I am depressed All the time and i am at the end of my rope! My husband and I would like to have children, but right now I just want to get healty and grow my hair back. I also wanted to know if hair regrowth is possible. I really need to hear form those of you who have been successful with that. Like i said I am really tired of this, and I am scared!

One of the first things my doctor is going to do (after I get my bloods back) is give me a referral for one. I'm a newbie too but I've been doing a lot of reading and you sound a classic case. |

My best advise would be to just wait until you see the OBGYN and hopefully he will run somemore tests and perhaps do an ultrasound.
Try not to worry.
Meantime look around here and gather info so you will be armed with knowledge for that appt. on Thurs.
Good Luck,Mary! |

I'm sorry you're having trouble getting a diagnosis of what's wrong. Were you told that your blood work is normal or do you actually have copies of it? It's quite possible that your doc doesn't know much about PCOS. Some levels could actually be in the 'normal' range but indicate PCOS. Like FSH and LH levels. the levels could be normal, but it's the ratio between the two numbers that matters.
My doctor says that hair regrowth is totally possible. However it may take a lot of time. Hair grows in .... i believe.... 2 year cycles (or something like that) so it'll take time.
Good luck with your Gyn! and if your gyn doesn't listen, just keep going to other doctors until you find one that does. Doc number 5 (i think) was the charm for me

This may be of help: Preparing for Your PCOS Consultation: Questions to Ask Your Doctor
My bloodwork is good (except I have high cholesterol),my doc diagnosed me based on my symptoms. He also gave me met and it helped a lot (more regular cycles, weight loss, and eventually pregnancy). I didn't take BCP's for long, they just didn't do much to help in my case. I did have a pelvic ultrasound which shows that I have polycystic ovaries (but you can have PCOS without having cystic ovaries). Not trying to be confusing here, it's just that different cysters have different symptoms so we can't be diagnosed based on some magic formula. And yes, I saw several docs before I found one who diagnosed me.
I'm sorry that you're feeling depressed, it's such a painful illness. :Hugs: We are here to help. Don't be afraid to get treatment for depression (if you're not already)! I take prozac, and it helps a lot.
Hang in there cyster, you are welcome to pm me or email me if you want to talk.
Hugs
Jenny
