I recently started Met and Spiro together. I can't even tell which is making me feel SO tired that I can't even hold my head up, but I hope it goes away. Dizzy, lethargic, and cranky... I'm with you here.. let's hope it gets better for us! We're strong, we can handle it!
It should improve. The first time I was on met and never had an issue (2500mg). This time I'm on 1000mg and have had an upset belly and can't handle the heat well. Hoping it passes soon!
When I Started Metformin..i Had To Come To This Site For Help Because I Was Going Nuts...dizzy, Nauseated, E.t.c. I Was Taking Two Pills A Day (1 In The Morning And 1 Before Bed). I Found That Taking It In The Morning Ruins My Whole Day Cuz I Start Feeling Sick And Can't Through The Day. Well Now I Take 2 At Night And Have No Problem...maybe U Should Try/consider That. Good Luck
I started taking met on 5/28 (started out at 500 mg, then went to 1000 mg the next week). I had only a few days of "running to the bathroom" and upset stomach. Then it seemed that my side affects mostly went away. It's only recently that I've been a bit dizzy. I try to eat at regular intervals so my blood sugar is stable. But all that said, I think my mood is what's mostly bugging me. Some days I do feel like I'm nuts. I'm hoping as time goes on that I find relief.
I do feel better while at work. I think it's because I have to be focused and it takes my mind off of what's going on. Does anyone else find this to be true?
I couldn't get used to Metformin (I used to take 3- 500mg XR at bedtime). My doctor switched me to Byetta 2x a day. I feel so much better, loosing weight, and I'm more compliant!!

Based on what I've read here, for some it does it get better and for others, it doesn't. What seems to make a big difference is to adjust your diet to a low carb one. You should also check out the Hints for Met Side Effects sticky.
I found this very helpful for my father who was put on it with no warnings. He's been taking it for a little over two years, so you think he would have put 2 and 2 together (lots of fiber BAD, lots of sugar BAD), but he didn't and suffered. I think he's doing better now.

I had stopped taking Met for a month and now my parents are making me get back on it. My stomach is bothering me so much today that I am afraid to eat anything. I am afraid that I am going to throw up. Most people would not make much of it, but I have a phobia of throwing up and I am all stressed out and scared.
It really sucks because this is the first day that my back hasn't been killing me and I can't enjoy it because I'm sick.

Up until my last refill I was taking 500mg in the morning and 500mg at night. After the first couple of weeks, my body adjusted. Dr screwed up on script so I got stuck with 1000mg that I'm taking at night, and I'm miserable. I've been late to work everyday because I have to wait til I know it's safe to leave the house. I love my pharmacist though, he kindly switched it back to the 500mg pills, so in 8 more days, hopefully, I'll be back to normal.
