Unhappy I can't believe this...

I went to the doctor yesterday for my thyroid then they tell me I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome .. I came home and cried all last night. I couldn't believe it. It just don't feel real. I'm 19 , and don't feel like I should be going through this at such an early age. I'm so depressed. My symtpoms included excessive hair and not having my periods. I'm just depressed. They told me that I better change my entire diet due to the closeness of diabetes.. I'm so depressed......

I'm very sorry. This is a great club, but the membership dues suck. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I had just turned 15. It took 7 more years for me to find out anything about it and begin treatment. The fact that your here means that you won't have to suffer that. I found out too late and became diabetic. I know the whole thing is depressing, but there are a lot of people who here who will help you in any way they can. Your doctor is right about the diet. Being on a low carb diet will help you a ton. I'm not one to talk because I'm off right now. Mine is a financial issue. I've become a SAHM and I had to trade in the chicken breast for chicken pot pies. The cost is pretty high though. I had to take insulin tonight. I'm tired and my symptoms are back in full swing. There are meds you can take that help too. I'm going to try to get into my Dr. monday and get back on Avandia. Most people, I think, take glucophage (metformin), but it upsets my stomach too much.

Anyway, if I can help let me know. You can visit my website and check out all my pretty pictures of Jamie. I have a link to my email there.

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate the support. I have felt overwhelmed the last couple of days. I thought I would never have to go through this.. Well, at least not now anyways. I go for my lab next week, and i'm so scared. Thank you again.

I was told this past Tues. that I most likely have this. I was on the pill f/20-25 and was fine. As soon as I went off everything went wacky. I kept going to Drs. trying to find out why I have so much pelvic pain. Had 2 CT scans and abdominal ultrasounds. Also had emergency surgery for a ruptured cyst. I was very depressed and crying for a couple days, especially since my husband and I have been ttc. Then came this relief to finally know what has been wrong with me. It can drive you crazy knowing that something is wrong and not knowing what!! But I can tell you that while this is not something you want to have deal w/at such a young age, it will save you years of misdiagnosis or being brushed off by Drs. to know this now. It's scary, but definately better than the unknown.
