Default I can't kick these damn allergies

I was tested for allergies about a month ago. Now keep in mind I have always had allergies but certain things bother me more than others. Anyway, it turns out that I'm highly allergic to dust mytes and cockroaches!! yuck!

I have my allergy shots once a week, and I'm also on Nasacort AQ and Allegra. My BF and I clean the house every 2 weeks, dust, vaccume, change sheets etc.....I can always tell when there is dust in the room because I start to cough!!! and cough and cough!

This is driving me insane!!!!

Exclamation Ideas.......

I am in the same boat as you cysta!!! I have severe allergies. My Doctor put me on Allegra and that has helped TREMENDOUSLY..................but you can't just dust dust dust.

First off.......get a humidifier. Get two if your rooms are big. Place one in the bedroom for at night and one in the main room of your house that you spend the most time in. (I spend the most time in the computer room so I put it in the hallway facing the computer room............don't put it in the computer room itself cause the electronics don't need all that moisture) That helps a lot. People with allergies get dry sinuses VERY easily.......and that leads to coughing, sneezing, etc.

Also......there are some great pillow covers and mattress covers at Walmart called Allercare........put them over your mattress/pillow and then put sheets and pillow case over them. REALLY help the dust mite problem!

Get a special mask to wear when you have to clean. Ideally you wouldn't dust and vaccum but I know that is unrealistic. You can get the special mask from allergy stores online (the national supply store). After you or someone else vaccums, you should leave the house for a few hrs until the particles settle back down that are lifted while vaccuming. A good vaccum can help. Also, when dusting don't use the feather dusters that just sweep the dust in the air. Use the spray. Also, don't stores books and other things that collect dust in the bedroom. Hope this helps some. Your Allergy Dr should have given you a handout on all of this + some.

Hey cystas!

Thanks for the help. I know when the dust is around....I start coughing. My BF and I usually clean the house every 2 weeks. Last weekend we were supposed to clean...and didn't. Boy did I notice....I started coughing! So I went cleaning crazy.....and sure enough I stopped coughing!

I do wear a mask when I clean. I must look like a freak! haha
but it helps. I also use the allery pillow cases.....I would like to get the mattress cover too. We have a motionless waterbed and the nurse said that the dust mites don't like that kind of bed as much.

I haven't tried the humidifier......I have one though. Perhaps I will set it up! I will let you know how I react to it!

Anyway, hopefully my allergy shots will start to work and I will be cured of coughing!

Default I know this sounds crazy but...

I had allergies sooo bad when I was a kid that I ended up in the hospital with asthmatic bronchitis more often than my mother could handle sometimes!
As an adult, I was tired of feeling sick and tired. This was before I knew that PCOS even existed so all of those symptoms added to my misery.

I went to a homeopathe and read, read, read. I found out that if you take a teaspoon of RAW honey from hives in the vicinity of your town it can help relieve allergy symptoms because your body develops some kind of immunity to them.

Well, I thought while this sounds to simple, It is worth a try. So I bought some raw honey and ate 1 teaspoonful a day for about 6 months.
I was so shocked when spring came around and my allergy symptoms were vastly better. I still had some flareup now and then but nothing like they were.
This was 8 years ago and I still have little to no flare ups. I am going to start taking it again as I moved to Reno and the trees and things that bloom are a bit different. I have had a couple of minor episodes but I want to nip it in the bud to keep it from getting worse.
I really swear by this. I was sick all the time and after the first 6 months of eating the raw honey I felt like a different person.

I know it takes discipline but as I have found out just by reading the posts on this website that there are a lot of determined cysters out there. And when you feel like you want to give up. There is a lot of support and encouragement as well.
If you have any other questions please let me know.
I am not sure where you live but I am sure you can find some raw honey somewhere. Mrs. Lunar
