I can't stop cryin...they want to possibly take my thyroid out!!?
My Endo called this morning and said my numbers are off the chart and its hypErthyroidism. He wants to start me on a med for 2 wks and then do radioactive iodine to KILL my thyroid.
I don't want to! I need my thyroid. God, please bless me with a miracle.
I am SO sorry to hear this. I don't now much about hypothyroidism, but I can tell you are upset and you definitely have a valid reason...I am so sorry for what you are going through...

So if you have this procedure done, does that mean no pregnancies for a while, or ever again? There's got to be another option for you. There are lots of cysters out there on thyroid meds...I hope one of them pops in with some suggestions here soon...sorry I am not of more help, the thyroid seems to be the one thing I haven't had issues with.
ok.........I've calmed down and called my endo back. I don't have thyroid disease, I have GRAVES' disease. He said that if I have the procedure done he would rather me not get pg for 6 mos. cause it could cause severe birth defects since it's radiation. I feel that I can breathe a little bit easier now.
Here's the information I found for Graves' disease.
What is Graves’ disease?
Graves' Disease is a type of autoimmune disease in which the immune system over stimulates the thyroid gland, causing hyperthyroidism. Over-activity of the thyroid gland is also sometimes called "diffuse toxic goiter." The thyroid gland helps set the rate of metabolism (the rate at which the body uses energy), and when it is over-stimulated, it produces more thyroid hormones than the body needs. High levels of thyroid hormones can cause difficult side effects. This is an extremely rare disease that tends to affect women over the age of 20. The incidence is about 5 in 10,000 people.
What is the treatment for this disease?
There are many treatments for Graves' Disease.
Medications: There are some prescription medications that can lower the amount of thyroid hormones produced by the body, regulating them to normal levels.
Surgery: Part or all of the thyroid gland will be removed. In most cases, people who have surgery for Graves' Disease will develop an under-active thyroid (hypothyroidism), and will have to take thyroid replacement hormones for the rest of their lives.
Radioactive iodine: The iodine damages thyroid cells to shrink the thyroid gland, to reduce hormone levels. Like surgery, this condition usually leads to hypothyroidism, requiring medication for the rest of the patient's life.
I am glad you have found some answers...6 months doesn't seem like too long of a wait...are you feeling better after doing some research and talking with the doc again?
Good!!!!! I am glad that you are gonna be ok!! (hugs)

Thryoid problems run rampant in my family. My mom had the procedure with the radiation to kill her thyroid. She had to do the radiation thing twice. She too was unsure of what to do about it. But the doc told her if she didn't do something about, she should get her affairs in order. So she had a bad case of it. She was having heart palpatations and her blood pressure was sky high because of her over active thryoid. She was constantly tired and had no energy and she lost a ton of weight. I just remember her looking sickly. She is now taking Synthroid and is doing much much better.
I would just say to be prepared (although they may not) for a second dose of radiation. When my mom had it done, it was a pill that was given to her. They made two attempts, and on the second it finally killed the thryoid. Afterwards, she had to be very careful when using our bathroom (flush twice!) for a period of time, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember. But the bathroom one was pretty crazy.
Good luck to you. Hope you feel better soon!

I have hypo 'Hasimotos' (my immune system is killing off my thyroid). Mostly like while you are balancing your thyroid you will not be able to get pregnant, but after it's level you'll be fine! I was told I would never have any children and surprise, we have our DD.

The deal is you will be taking radiation for the Graves disease. You have to make sure you flush and all of the waste is removed because I am sure the medicine is excreted through your body waste. Sounds strange I know.
I don't know what I'm going to do now. I'm trying to stay away from the radiation/surgery options. They're gonna lower my dose of Tapizole next week and possibly my Popnolol. If I get pg now, I found out thru research, that I can be switched from Tapizole to something called a PTU. So we're on with TTC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am glad you can still TTC and that you have been doing so much research! What kind of doc do you see for this stuff - a regular endocrinologist?
