Default i cant stop crying because so much of my hair is falling out and its so noticeable

Hi everyone. i am new to this website. i am 32 and i was just diagnosed with pcos last week. i began metformin yesterday. i have started with just one pill 500 mg. we will see what happens. all i know is my hair falls out so much that i dont even want to get up in the morning. i cry all the time. please tell me how i can stop it from falling out. i have lost probably 3/4 of my original thickness. i can deal if i can get it to stop at this point. its long so i can cover, but i feel like if it continues at this rate... ill be bald very soon. you can already see so much scalp... i cant leave it wet anymore and the amount of hair on my brushes and bathroom floor make me want to throw up when i see it.

i dont even understand how i have pcos. i am 120 lbs.. have regular periods... but my levels lh/fsh .. i think thats what its called..were flipflopped, some pimples.. some excess hair... but my hair is falling out so rapidly.... have i said that?

you all seem so knowledgeable... please help me to find a way to stop it... and or regrow it.. i can deal if it doesnt regrow.. please give me advice on how to stop it...

thank you so much. i am in desperate need of some positive news....

Did you talk to your doctor about the hair loss? If it's due to excess androgens there are medications for that. Your doctor can help with that.

As for your diagnosis, you might want to ask your doctor how s/he arrived at the diagnosis.

(btw, your weight has nothing to do with the diagnosis, there is an entire forum here, dedicated to 'thin cysters'...)

That's not vague, that's pretty specific...

Generally speaking the metformin is to address your insulin resistance. In some women their androgens (testosterone is an androgen) will respond, but many others take an anti-androgen medication like aldactone or flutamide.

Visit the HAIR forum further down the board...lots of info there.

Also, welcome to Soulcysters! Sorry to meet you under these circumtances, but you've come to the right place for support

Hi I am 34 and was diagnosed with androgen genetic alopecia (thanks to PCOS) when I hit thirty my temples were so balding that I didnt know what was happening. I have since tried a whoe range of treatments and lotions and potinos and this is waht I have found. Get ona strong anti androgen AND the contreceptive pill if poss, I am currently on Flutamide and it has halted the shedding although I see no regrowth.

I also wear over 200 hair extensions to give me thickness and it has helped my self esteem no end.

I know where you are at as I was there four years ago and am probably only just coming out the other side i even contemplated suicide and I felt my life was over I am so sad to hear you giong thruogh this

I also have hair loss. I lost half my hair at 22 but I haven't done anything to treat it other than use the lasercomb. But I started out with a whole LOT of hair so it doesn't look as bad as it sounds.

Did your doctor talk to you about birth control? Sometimes that's enough to stop the hair loss.

Hugs.

@ScaredSally
I'm on my 4-th month on Flutamide and my shedding is also better. If I don't see any regrowth on the oneyear mark on Flutamide I planonadding Yasmine. On what pill are you right now?

maybe you could have your doctor check your intracellular ferritin levels(iron). I started using a liquid iron supplement about a month and a half ago and my hairloss slowed dramatically. I don't have friends, family or strangers picking hairs off my back and shoulders anymore because i shed so much. I don't have to get down on my hands and knees and comb my wall to wall carpet with a pet hair remover anymore because one sweep of the floor would clog the vaccum and i would have to take apart the vacuum head to remove the wads of hair.

I'm not saying iron will solve everything but it might help. best wishes.

Yeah, I was on it for 6 months and saw absolutely no regrowth. Don't waste your money. It is quite expensive and I they didn't even fill the bottles to the top.
