Whats worse is that I was the bread winner. DH is in school. Not only did I lose my job, but I lost my insurance. Now I cant afford my treatments anymore. I am so depressed I dont know what to do with myself.

All I can say is hang in there and I hope everything goes well. Also--did you get a severance package? Maybe you can COBRA your benefits while you look for a new job. And don't forget to apply for unemployment benefits. I'm an employment lawyer and it may not be much but unemployment benefits can definitely help make ends meet while you look for a new job.

My Mood: Points: 18,080.22 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 18,080.22 | Call your HR department and see if you have benefits till the end of the month. Then call your doctor and tell them what is up. Go tonight and fill out unemployment because it takes I think four weeks to start.
Then, take an immediate look at your money. What do you have and what do you owe? Did you get a severance package?
Something else you can do tonight is put your resume on Monster. Also, update or tweak it a tiny bit weekly so it looks fresh.
I am very sorry this happened. I remember when my job closed with no notice and all 60 of us were laid off.
It will be ok, I promise. Getting laid off was horrible at the time but in the end changed my life for the better. |

My Mood: Points: 13,573.36 Bank: 45,942.35 Total Points: 59,515.71 | I am getting a severance package, but it is really not much, about 1 months worth of pay. My benefits are good until Sept. 30, but I am on CD 15 of a 30-45 day cycle. Who knows when it will come. I am still going to go see my RE to see what I can do. I put my resume on monster and reached out to ever person I know. Our last day is offically Sept. 1, which is why my benefits are good until the end of Sept. Do I have to wait until after that to file unemployment, or can i go now?

I don't know but maybe the unemployment website has a FAQ for that?
I will say that we did actually almost break even on unemployment because we were not spending money on gas and going out to eat-drinks after work etc.
Also, if you do go on unemployment you can do most of it online. |

My Mood: Points: 1,287.73 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,287.73 | Wait until September 2nd to file for unemployment. It should only take about 2 weeks before you get your first check. Good luck! And don't be afraid to try temp agencies if you have to. That's how my brother found his current job

It will be ok. |

You can elect it only for yourself and it would probably be a few hundred dollars for one month but probably less than trying to pay for treatment out of pocket with no insurance. You can term it at any time so you don't have to keep paying. Best of luck to you.

My Mood: Points: 6,771.91 Bank: 148,150.24 Total Points: 154,922.15 | I got laid off in May and I am on Cobra. I asked my friend who is an insurance agent and she said that even cobra prices are better (for the coverage you are getting) than if you were to get a individual policy. Check out the website indeed.com...it draws from all job sites. Linked in is also a good resource for networking...
I am still looking, the job market is tough out there. There is always working retail until something comes your way....
Best of luck...
Definately take Cobra!!!!
