So I'm new to the site and I was just diagnosed (like a few days ago) with PCOS and to be honest, I'm petrified. I'm 19 years old and the only reason I was even diagnosed was because a nurse at my college's health center noticed my symptoms; my pediatrician had never even heard of PCOS. I don't know what to expect or even what I should be doing now other than waiting for my appt with a gyno.
Basically, I'm looking for advice. I don't know anyone with PCOS and everything I read about it is just making me more and more concerned. I feel so alone with this and don't really know where to turn to.
So any advice you have, any at all, would be greatly appriciated. Even if it's just how to deal with the stress of it all, I'd be happy. I just need to know that I'm not alone in this...that someone else understands.
Hi Becky! You are definitely not alone and this site will be a great resource for you in learning about and understanding PCOS. My advice would be to read the posts, search for specific topics you want more info on and post your questions. There are TONS of intelligent, helpful people on here who are more than willing to help you! A great place to start may be the forum with the research articles and the newbie forum. Best wishes!!

Yes, you are definitely not alone! I was diagnosed at 19 also (now 21) so i know how it feels to be broadsided by a disease you didn't know existed! I think it is hard for any women to deal with the side effects of PCOS, especially being at the age we are it is very hard. I still am petrified that i may never have kids but they are making many advances in that area. I recently just found this website and thank god for that because i thought i was the only one dealing with my "male" issues. There are a lot of women on here that know a lot about PCOS and will help you, just ask. I have been reading all the posts and it has helped me so far. Ask if you have any questions! Don't worry! You will be fine!

Don't worry Becky. I just found out Friday the 13th.... which was creepy in itself. I'm very confused, and scared myself. I've been trying to read all about it, and get an understanding of it all, so if you need somebody to talk to I'm here. We can kind of learn about it together.
welcome to sc i know what you mean, getting diagnosed is a big shock. That's why this site is so amazing, everyone is so friendly, and you can learn loads here

Try not to be too afraid. PCOS is actually very common, just not well known. It's very treatable. What are your symptoms?
I would HIGHLY reccommend seeing an Endocrinologist rather than a Gyno because they are typically much more well versed with PCOS and will run all the tests you need.

Becky, I wasn't officially diagnosed at 17, when I first saw a Gyn for anovulation, but was told I'd have a lot of trouble conceiving. It was so confusing and devastating to hear this at a young age when having children isn't crossing your mind, you just want to treat it and move on with a normal life. I felt like the odd woman out, not having periods and then thinking about the what ifs for a future family when life is just starting! If you have questions, look around the site and ask too. These boards are full of information and other women who've BTDT.
