Question I Don't Want Provera

Alright, so I was Dx w/PCOS almost 2 years ago. Has surgery in May of '06 (just a lap and D&C). Had a regular period every month for almost a year and then it stopped. I have been having horrible pain for the last few months and no period since March of '07. I have been putting it off going to the doctor, which was probably my first mistake. But anyways, today I made an appointment with a new doctor. Since I haven't had a pap in over a year and its going on 8 months since my last period, I think its time. My only problem is that I have been on Provera before and it makes me so sick to my stomach and just makes me feel awful all over. I don't want to take that. The last doctor I went to told me that it wasn't true. Um, excuse me? I don't see him taking it! I know how my body feels!!! I know there is other meds out there that I can take, not just one. So if this doctor "recommends" Provera can I refuse and ask for other options? I am also going to ask her what I can do about the facial hair I have and everything. Yeah I can shave it, but still...as far as hair loss once in a while I might see a clump of hair in the shower or something, but my hair is so thick I guess I don't really miss it. I just wish I could feel "good" again. I want to not have to deal with pain everyday of my life, I want to enjoy intercorse again, considering almost every time afterwards I cramp so bad, and sometimes during I have to stop because of pain. Another question....does going to a female gyno made a difference? I have never been to a female, and most of the male gynos I have went to have been nothing but rude. Alright, enough of my ramblings. I just want some input on meds you guys take and how they help.

I don't do well on Provera but have done well on Prometrium...you can ask your doctor about that...apparently it is a more natural form of progesterone...only side effect is that it makes me very sleepy..my doctor has me take it at bedtime. You can search around here for more info on that. I get terrible sick on Provera too!

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.

Provera made me VERY sick. Tell your dr that you tried it and it made you sick, so you would like to explore other options. As far as a female gyn, other than when I was pg and rotated through my practice, all of mine have been male and absolutly wonderful. I'm sorry you haven't had the same experience. GL.
