I haven't posted in a while, but thought I would, since I'm so frustrated with my body, and who understands better??
I have been back on Metformin for 2 months now, 1500 mg a day (500 x 3), and it brought AF last month, but she was light. I really don't have many side effects from Met, other than the initial gastrointestinal stuff. That's better, unless I eat fried greasy food, but that's only chinese on the weekend. lol
My problem, though, is that I just feel like crap all over. I'm achy in my arms, shoulders, neck, legs, and hips. I feel like my limbs are made of lead. I'm fatigued, and feel like I've run a marathon or something! I'm sleeping from 11pm till 7 am, when I get up with my dh, and after he goes to work, I sleep from 8 till noon. I set the alarm for noon, because I don't want to sleep the WHOLE day away. But if I left it, I could sleep till 3 or 4 pm, everyday. That's about 15 or so hours a day, and when I get up, I feel exhausted. I could fall asleep on a moments notice.
I usually have a slight headache, and just feel slightly ill all day long.
HOW can I feel normal? I thought that the meds would help with this, and I feel better in other ways after starting Met, but I want to feel normal!
Any suggestions??
Thanks!
Andrea

I don't know if this is an option for you, but over the weekend, I became a HUGE believer in acupuncture. I've been on Met since 4/27, and had been feeling AWFUL for a while (both pre- and post- starting Met). I had been feeling particularly AWFUL since last Thursday, when I ramped up from 500 to 1000. Terrible GI distress, a lower back/left kidney ache that NOTHING seemed to help, bad lethargy, a bad case of the blahs, slightly to moderately depressed, etc.
I went for a consult on Saturday, did one treatement, and today, for the first time in a LONG time, I feel good. Not great, but definitely good, if you know what I mean. And, I've actually SLEPT well for the last two nights. In fact, yesterday and today, I literally JUMPED out of bed (without beating up the "snooze" button to within an inch of its life) for the first time in as long as I can remember.
My acupuncturist is super-well versed in PCOS, and basically knew what my symptoms were within minutes of me sitting down to talk to her. I'm not new-agey by any means, and am definitely eating my words (I was seriously dubious before).
HTH,
Ann

I used to feel that way all the time, I felt like I got run over by a truck and I could sleep for days.
I don't know if you've tried this but I stopped eating sugar and white flour and I feel 100 times better. I know, I know NO SUGAR. I was a sugar nut and I did it and after the 1rst week it was ok.
A year later I dable in a square or special desert here and there but I never crave it and I don't miss white bread or rice at all.
Hope this helps!

I feel your pain. I always feel like something is broken. I get headaches, I'm achy, my stomach get upset, i get awful cramps, kidney pains, depression, panic attacks, everything. I have an old head injury that makes me yip and bark like I have tourettes, an old leg injury that causes me to lose the feeling in my legs if I sit still for more than a few minutes. I'm 24 and i feel 50, my DBF is wondering how i'm still alive. I'm worried he's going to be scared off by all my health problems. None of them are severe, or life threatening, or anything, but I feel like there is always something wrong...and thats just crappy.

I know exactly how you feel Andrea I started taking metfom on my 22nd birthday 500mg a little nausea but nothing serious then that following week I went up a dose to 1000mg (500 x2) that's when the diarrhea started and I had to miss a couple of days of work and school from it now I'm taking the 1500mg (750 x2) and I do sleep alot and I also come to realize that if I take my pills with greasy food or not a full enoughfood in my tummy I get sick and I vomit everytime so I went to my doctor and she told me to take the medication apart one pill in the morning and the other in the afternoon and I could also take them with milk because the milk with coat my tummy and so I wouldn't feel so horrible when taking the medication. Also you could try to exercise like going for a nice walk instead of being in the house just try to get out the normal of your everyday routine. Cause I know how easy it is just to sleep all day I know if I could I would but that is not healthy or helpful either.I don't know if this will help but I hope you feel better.

I'm not taking anything else, no. I don't know what else I would take! lol
i was just asking because the symptoms you have described are the exact ones i've been having since about october of last year. they are going away now, especially since i've stopped taking the weird herbal remedy i was taking (i wanted to take just vitex, but was given a ticture that contained vitex and a whole load of other things, including phytoestrogens - not what i wanted).
hopefully the pains and fatigue will subside for you too :)
